Dubstep in Dubai?
Re: Dubstep in Dubai?
people advertise nights here as being dubstep but there's not shit really. not forward thinking at least... you'll get the occasional god-awful brostep remix of some popular bullshit but yeah... couple of people are putting on dnb nights and having an ok turn out but the vibe is well different than it would be elsewhere.
not everyone who lives in dubai shares the mass consumption/fashion-glam view that takoda is talkin bout tho... there's change happening but being a place that is only 20-some years old it needs time to find it's way. The recession has helped weed out a lot of the marks who're only here to make a quick buck and has helped make some sort of community of people who have an interest to make it a nice place to live (not that it isn't already).
to be fair, putting on nights and making music here is probably a bit more entertaining than in a place where its so damn saturated that you have to shove your shit down people's throats... you find your niche and make do with what comes. after all if its about the music it could be fine to share it with just 1 other person...

Hi,
It's true, the music scene sucks here.
So me and a friend of mine decided to organize a Drum n Bass/Dubstep gig in the desert (since clubs aren't too excited about dubstep). We've already done 2 of them, got 50 people to come on the first one and 80+ on the second! Note that the place is an hour drive. We have our 3rd one coming up in Feb and it already looks bigger (1oo + confirmed). (if any of you are in Dubai and are interested in coming up just PM, it isnt the most legal party so we cant advertise it publicly). We got a decent sound system with up to 6 DJs in our last one. Some of them well reputed in Dubai.
Now because of the last 2 desert parties some organizers got interested and people started talking, we now have 2 nights dedicated exclusivly for DnB/Dubstep. It's not too bad considering the rubbish played here and the amount of people who listen to Dubstep.
Also after the parties we've got a few people who started mixing (and some of them shocked us with their hidden talents) and even making some music. Dubstep is slowly but surely evolving in Dubai.
Peace.

It's refreshing to know that there are people in Dubai organising such events in the desert. Much better atmosphere than the poser clubs in my opinion. I, and a couple of my friends would love to come to such events if accessible to us lost dubstep fans here. Location!?????
Need some dxbstep!!!!!
