Re: Do you have your own secret production techniques?
Eq and compress on the mixdown ( especially compression) unless you want a certain effect.

I'm changing my audio settings often so it's hard not to notice thatbennyfroobs wrote:oohhh sick sick how did u find that out???mromgwtf wrote:bennyfroobs wrote:er
its probs not a secret
but if ur flipping throygh the samples menu thingy on the left on fl studio
and u wanna test assorted samples with an effect (reverb for example)
put the effect on ur master channel bus whatever its called and then all the samples u click on will play with that effect ((((:
saves u clicking and dragging them into a sampler
Anything that's being played from the preview window, will be sent to that mixer channel. So you don't have to fuck with your master channel. It's useful, because I can adjust the volume of the preview.
maybe i should actually read the manual lol

I think this would be better with grey noise.Banesy wrote:Has anyone used or heard of the pink noise trick to mixing? I ran across a random youtube video but haven't tried it yet. In summary, you are supposed to pop in a pink noise track and adjust each track so that it doesn't poke out of the pink noise. Curious if anyone has used it? It sounds like it would be a good way to start off on the right foot when going into a final mixdown stage.
Ah here it is.

Make music that excites you and do it because you love doing it. Get inspired by something and then develop that feeling. Keep developing your thing cuz that is you and that is amazing. You will do something amazing with your work if you keep going. Don't give up. Work on it fucking hard and harder than you have on anything else in your life. How do you think all the other producers did it? They didn't just sit there, they plugged away ten hours a day. I'm not joking. Then once you break through it is even more difficult, but by then hopefully you have your shit on lock down,, well you better have cuz otherwise you will quickly disappear. Harsh but true I am afraid.

I know I am splitting hairs and arguing semantics...but I don't really think there are secrets...just training your ears and gaining experience...if ya'll want to call those things "secrets" and "discover" them cool with me...but personally that vocabulary feels self defeating. Make it obtainable.mromgwtf wrote:Through hard word and dedication come secret production techniques among other things.fragments wrote:to be honest that is actually one of the better answers in this threadKill_Um_With_Fire wrote:Hard work and dedication.

The idea that there are "secrets" just doesn't sit well with me. Most fancy mixing BS doesn't apply to most typical mix situations IMO. The basics are all you need. Everything is too complicated these days with all the shit you can do in DAWs. Certainly use the current technology to your advantage, but keep in mind people were making hit records w/o any of the this side-chain EQ maximizer multiband compression stereo wideners...you know what I mean?

Re: Do you have your own secret production techniques?
There are certainly secrets. Tons...And these will greatly enhance your ability to develop a unique sound and be successful. But, one needs to look past the technical aspects of music making and start focusing on the philosophical sides. When you get bogged down about 'rules' of technical sides of music making, you start missing the point.
BUT, there are certainly secret techniques. You can notice them in some of moments in careers of big producers and you can work them out for yourself, and then adjust them to your way of working, Just analyze...

I don't think I'm familiar with multi-timbral pads. Care to elaborate?legend4ry wrote:Its a game changer!jonahmann wrote:I just discovered multi-timbral pads.

It's just a matter of assigning each note of the chord to a different sound.
