Xabi is a tnuc.

I feel Del Bosques picks where off in both games tbh not that it excuses it but a midfield with Busquets, Xabi and Xavi is going to be slow against any team.
Couple that with a big target man like Costa and it makes escapingly small sence, not least in the context of tikitaka or whatever you want to call possession football.
Not clever at all, slightly cunning maybe but that ought to be below a worldcup champion tbh. Same with Brazil and their playing style.

On paper 2-1 Italy is probably a realistic result, whats your point?

Whereas the USA have a similar scoreline win over the great footballing nation of Ghana (with a total population slightly less than that of Texas)

FIFA Rankings:

7. Uruguay
9. Italy
10. England
28. Costa Rica

Yeah, not really "on paper", ehbs. If England get through this group it'll be a pretty good achievement... three sides are VERY competitive on paper with England arguably the outsider.

No, not at all. And it's not a question of fifas rating either.

It's as good a metric as anything else; of course nothing like that really matters on the day... anyway, whatever way you look at it, Uruguay, England and Italy will have ALL planned to get out of this group at the start of the tournament. The two that do will have done well and the one that doesn't will be torn to shreds by their fans.

All three teams "on paper" "should" make it to the knockout stages, but all three can't. "Should" doesn't count for very much when you're into knockout football.

Costarica was above mexico in the qualification (which is one of the best measures tbh)

Why should they!?

They've got a good chance, but Uruguay and England are pretty well matched tbh. Costa Rica, yeah, absolutely... a loss there would be embarrassing, but if Chile can beat England at home, Uruguay can certainly give us a run for our money.

People always assume England are up there with Germany and France. We NEVER are.
