I think it's just the thought of Goldie sitting there going "yeah m8 so the way it is in my mind, I want it to start with like a beautiful string orchestra slowly rolling in, then I feel like some inner city rnb fem vocals would blanket over the strings perfectly, can u do that laddy? then bring in the breaks wake me up when you're done yeah" then leaving the rest to Playford. But tbh I'm sure he did more than that. I read that article on the making of the album and Rob is one hell of an engineer.
Didn't know The same went for dre though I always thought his respect as a producer was cement .

Not sure how unpopular this is, but that new Jamie xx tune "all under one roof raving" is easily one of the most boring things I've heard in a while

m8 i've seen him dj at various nights and festivals recently and i can say he's reached a new level of bore, wouldn't even qualify as 'background music'

Sleep Sound was brilliant IMO and so was Beat For, Far Nearer took a while to grow on me, but a lot of his stuff is almost overwhelmingly boring. Girl was weak as fuck, as is this new release.

The only productions of his I've really enjoyed when I think about it (with a few exceptions) are those where he's working with other people - the xx, the jil scott-heron album (although that was very hit and miss imo).. when he's making beats for himself they usually seem to come out pretty bland and neutered
