best iOS/android music productions apps

Heads up:

Magellan (both versions - iPad and iPhone) is a pretty fucking stellar iOS synth.

It was recently updated with a seriously cool randomize function called SPAWN.

It has the beefiest FX rack of any synth-only app out there by a long shot, and you can use the FX by themselves (as an Audiobus or IAA throughput.)

For the money, you will not find a more feature-laden, better sounding synth.

+1 for Magellan. It's one of the more versatile synths for ipad.

I've been messing with jamup lately and that thing is super sweet sounding.

I have quite a few (OK way too many) Iphone/Ipad music apps. I have Korg iKaossilator and its pretty fun but IMHO not a serious music making tool if you are making original stuff. Theres only the preset sounds but you can use a bunch of different combinations to create loops and export them for further editing. Samplr is by far my favorite app but I believe its iPad only.
Impaktor is really fun. It uses your mic so that you can finger drum on a table and synthesize drum sounds. Pretty amazing.
Some great synths: Magellan, Korg iPolySix, Sunrizer, AddictiveSynth, Korg iMS20, Animoog, iElectribe, Waldorf Nave.
Also, loopy is great for building up your own loops.
iOS is becoming pretty serious in the music making arena. So much good shit out there.

@Mr. Frost - check out the AUFX series, Moog's Filatron, Glitchbreaks, AudioReverb, & Echo Pad. The Sugar Bytes WOW filter is very, very well reviewed and received. I haven't tried it personally.

It even allows you to use the app as a controller to play your progressions. iOS only though.

This is the best app I've ever purchased. Awesome when you're on the road and just want to make some chord progressions

I've not tried those. The Chord Poly app is the only one I found that allowed you to create chords on each pad and tap the pads to create progressions. I'll check the others out though.

Anyone know of an Android app that would be good for making unsynched evolving soundscapes? Could be a sampler or synth. I already have Caustic and Jusato. Jusato is a decent canidate, but for whatever reason on my Nexus tablet it eats CPU like a mthrfckr.

Edit: unsynched because Im not going to fuck around with MIDI on Anroid...basically what I want to do is use my tablet as an "hardware synth" to make soundscapes that will get sidechained to something with my RNC

Turnado is good also. The nice thing about the sugarbytes stuff is that it's the full desktop version, so you know exactly what your getting.

So, lots of cool synths being mentioned here but DAW wise - what's the best?

I'm thinking in terms of sitting on an airplane, making a tune in a daw like app, and being able to export the midi and I guess Wav to your computer.

Garageband can export projects which can be loaded into logic which is nice for me. But any daws with more capable synths and drums? Generally more capable DAWs?

I know of Beatmaker 2, Nanostudio, Fl Mobile, Cubasis, and that Aurariarua one, forget what it's called.
As this is just for ideas and I'm poor, I would rather not spend as much money as the most expensive ones (Cubasis, Aurariaair, etc).

What do you guys use?

It's not perfect, but in terms of power and workflow nothing else comes close.

There's a lot more options when it comes to synths. The new Mitosynth app is mighty badass. So are Animoog, Magellan, and Alchemy.

Btw, you'll also probably want to get Audiobus too.

Nanostudio is a great all in one sort of deal. You can't actually use other synths/effects with it (although you can use Edin as a sampler).

BM2 is the most grown up daw without breaking the bank (cubasis,auria). It's great on cpu and pretty straightforward. Accepts audiobus and IAA. It's my pick for sure, just make sure you get some decent drum samples in there because the stock ones are crap.

Auria will get you the most out of audio, but no midi and a high cpu hit turn a lot of people off.

GarageBand is ok if you just want to get an idea down super quick. It's really easy to use and dead simple for arraigning stuff. And the built in stuff is pretty good also.

Modular creaminess galore. Does shitloads of things - drum synth, sequences, fx, pads, self-generating ambient 'scapes, very thick sexy basses, and once you get used to the kind of weird but efficient workflow it's really easy to tweak stuff simply by moving the modules around. I've bought almost every modular available for iPhone but this one seems like it's going to be more fun & sonically rewarding than the rest.

Jasuto is a serious sound design tool. I have the Android version. Its a bit finiky dont think itll get updated but its still pretty legit.
