There's SO much good shit coming out for iPad music production it's not even funny. Check out discchord.com for some starters. Just in the last week or so Oscilab and Mitosynth... I have the latter and for $10 it blows pants off plugs costing twenty times as much.

@Jags - this is a short list of musicmaking apps I think you can't go wrong with. There's a lot more (I left out some secret weapons ) but any of these should put a smile on yer face and find its way into your tunes sooner or later. Also, bear in mind that a lot of these apps go on sale or free all the time (it's how the devs jack with app store ratings) so although you might balk at something's price, if you wait a while and watch palmsounds.net regularly it'll almost always turn up.
