It's sad but I've kinda grown cold on most 130. I've had this rant a lot on DSF lately, but so much of it encompasses what I hate about current UK "underground" music.

First, a lot of it has this aesthetic fetish for the "nuum" which is just wanky IMO. Also, so much of it is so obsessed with being "forward thinking" and avoiding obvious musical choices that lots of the tunes just end up not registering with me. They just can't let the tunes roll out naturally, cus it's not forward enough or whatever. Some producers definitely aren't like that, and I really rate certain sets by Parris, like his first youngsta guest mix, but yeah.

Hubb explains this better than I do

variety is the spice of spice

too much of anything makes things less enjoyable

hey hark you have been obsessed with all this uk underground trends things. they are music of all kind, with different types of ambitions. I discover sick stuff everyday, spend all the day thinking if the stuff is groundbreaking or if is just a copy of an old genre or what ever is pointless. just enjoy music

uttu only got a handful of releases in this vein
tri angle are only marginally related. let's not forget they were releasing bait witch house a couple of years ago
ramp released like what? two records from visionist and filter dread. so you could hardly say the label is involved in this scene
I don't even understand anything anymore. Where are you people getting these rules?
i was adressing the fact that it's not some big unified scene, just labels doing their own separate thing and trying to stick them under the same umbrella is pointless

Yeah I always think the whole '130'thing gets harsh criticism. If you constantly view everything under a microscope then the enjoyment is clearly going to go away.

I guess you're right diego yeah, and to some extent I do think about that shit when I put on the dusk & blackdown show etc.

Maybe the reason I'm more comfortable listening to jungle, hip hop, older dubstep etc is I don't really have too many thoughts about that music in a big context like that. Not because there's something inherent in 130.

edit: It's weird like that. Talking/thinking about music can be really interesting, but a lot of the time you'll look back on that whole thought process, and it's gotten completely detached from the music itself and what it makes you feel, and suddenly it's all needless bullshit shit chat. I'm in music for the feeling, not to be a professor in the end.

Those are all examples of a sound that is hard to acquire now because you need to know what gear was used and have a long period where everybody compete in just that gear. Like EMU/mpc darwinism :6: . That's one part of the appeal.
Not that recent generations haven't done that in part, but we can hear the difference and itb is just different than summing in a desk.

I'm not sure I buy the music is mainly for listeners that expect enjoyment

interesting in terms of who they are aesthetically, to see them jam like this. the youtube comment nails it, saying it would be great to see them work on a proper feature together
