Well Jesus believed that he was and so do a fair amount of people. Jews don't have anyone yet, but I plan on putting in my application.

Nah Jesus is not the jewish messiah, because he didn't meet the requirements in the job description:

-Build the Third Temple
-Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel
-Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore."
-Spread universal knowledge of the G-d of Israel - uniting the entire human race as one: "G-d will be King over all the world—on that day, G-d will be One and His Name will be One"



You could say he was well on his way, unfortunately he was stopped before he could finish it. Messiah's a job with some crazy high qualifications.
