Re: Earthquakes triggered by FRACKING wastewater in Oklahoma
also if this place had earthquakes naturally then surely these little ones every now and then that dont damage anything are good so they stop the pressuire building up in tectonics and there being a big one that atcually does somethin?
bi[p up fracking imo

uk is retards even if it does start to cause earthquakes here they'll probably blame immigrants or the middle eastAxeD wrote:Fracking is being done in countries without natural earthquakes all the time.
I didn't think I would actually have to say this, but yes it causes earthquakes
Dutch government/companies have already paid a sizable sum to cover damages caused by it.

Thats probably true
Then we'll invest another couple billion in wind farms and all our energy bills will go up for the next 130 years to recoup their losses it costs to develop and maintain and balance the power plants that they use

Re: Earthquakes triggered by FRACKING wastewater in Oklahoma
if it wasn't for stupid hippies we would have developed incredibly efficient nuclear power by now and that would make the majority of our power so wouldn't need to frack.
So really fracking is the doing of hippies.

I'm a bit environmentalist, I'd say it's the number one thing going that's gonna fuck up humanity
I don't understand why environmentalists aren't all for nuclear energy
The alternatives are, what:
1) Hope that the world will develop incredible energy efficency and/or disipline to reduce the emissions by a lot. Not only that, but the big emerging economies which are now getting big middle classes (china, india etc) with access western lifestyles will have to forego that luxury we've been enjoying for ages. This sounds completely impossible to me.
2) Some amazingly sustainable energy technology arrives. This may happen i suppose, but it's a lot to bet on isn't it.
The alternative is you take nuclear energy, accepting the potential massive fallout which can happen, but which is relatively unlikely.

No-one's heard of localised power generation then? No need for a central grid. You produce the electricity where it's used. Our national grid needs replacing anyway, it's old an inefficient.
I'm pretty realistic about the future of energy. If we don't change our ways, the price of oil and coal will become too expensive because demand will out strip supply. Cost of food will rise, cost of production will rise, and everyone will be fucked.
Our entire economic system is based on fossil fuels. But fossil fuels are finite, and before they run out they will become insanely expensive. This could happen within our generation too.
We need to prioritise our reserves, instead of just burning the stuff willy nilly.
Something needs to change surely? Even if we fracked the entire UK, it'll only power the place for max 50 years (depending on how much of the gas is recoverable). Hardly energy security is it?
Or are we just going to keep going until it's all gone and not have any kind of contingency plan?
Just a repeat of Easter Island, where the entire population died because they cut down every single tree.

Welcome to my UBER BIG President of the United States Idea….
I follow some of Paolo Soleri's theory and solution of ARCOLOGY…
Where cities should be like boats floating on the sea of nature…
self-sufficient - 100%walkable - I think he said 900 people max
Everyone does duty to maintain the city
- i.e. one month you work the greenhouse
-another you are setting up in the music pavilion
-another you are polishing floors at the health clinic etc…
-doing laundry at the hotel…
-helping to manufacture whatever it is that someone has set up…
exp. they make wind bells at arcosanti and cosanti...
My idea would be - to build - around the existing rail system a series of mini-arc -cities - all connected by high speed rail - so that young people can forgo their cars but still live in a centralized urban setting - with out creating a huge bumble fuck of a mega-tropolis...
***vital***
I would also include with that a parallel natural highway - for
hikers - bikers- runners - campers - horse riders
- so you could traverse the entire system and thus country
…by very earthy means…
and each arc city would then service the travelers and act as concentrated cultural centers…without spilling to far or wide into
and spoiling the naturalness…
and if you are traveling and need to stop for whatever…
you could just absorb into the transient center for awhile and work
get your moneys and supplies and continue on
or you could set up permanently - and live your life…
be more of a permanent fixture to the arc…
-doesn't that sound fun!!!
travel them all and find one that suits you best…
become a guardian of the natural surround…
They say that historically it was this kind of travel and trade
that made the renaissance happen…
Italian Villas were designed with huge arched doorways
that opened into large semi-public courtyards - or greens/fields
to allow travelers to enter and stay to trade…
- but could easily be defended against….marauders.

Re: Earthquakes triggered by FRACKING wastewater in Oklahoma
I haven't been to Arcosanti which is the large scale, newer complex…

But I have been to Cosanti which was his first project…
and I loved it!!

They use condensation coolers for air-conditioning
minimal electricity - zero chemicals…works perfectly well.
Soleri is the most famous student of Frank Lloyd Wright…
All of this is around his Taliesin West school outside of Scottsdale Arizona...

big up this guy
if we built nuclear plants on a highly disaster-prone area or an a fucking tectonic plate then there's an argument against it
apart from that,
why not go thorium?
i don't even care if they don't use thorium reactors just nuclear power on a global scale will solve everything
