How to make that "talking" bass?

Post by Jens » Mon Jul 14, 2014 7:09 pm

I want to know how you make a spefic bass sound in massive, but don't know what its called which makes it hard to find a tutorial. "burn it down" at 2:07 is a great example.

you can also find it in "UKF dub step tutorial which I'm sure you're all familiar with (ca. 0:53)

I want to either know what the type of bass is called or a video tutorial on how to make it. thanks! :)

Probably not the answer you're looking for but I would say to just persist with Massive and create your own sounds. That talking bass has been getting rinsed to death for years now. Surely you'd find it more fulfilling to sculpt your own signature sound?

We call it "yoi" bass around here.

Its made by using vowel/formant filters put through the LFO instead of a lowpass filter.

If you're using massive, try using the weird waveforms, its pretty simple really.

Loads of threads there about making that skrillex-style sound.

Running a modulating low-pass filter into a bitcrusher can get a yoy as well.
