Mooncricket is a racist term? Dax Riggs got some 'splainin' 2 do.
I looked up the meaning and it's pretty poetic for a slur.
Thread's getting the lock soon btw.

there was a reginald d hunter bit where he goes through british racist terms and highlights they're not particularly racist and some of them are actually soft and quite funny.

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
Well with regards to the quote you used, thats a whole bunch of bullshit with regards to ******, not ******. If you really need me to go into why ****** is offensive....Muncey wrote:How so? You are trained to react a specific way to certain words. The fact you're constantly told nobody should say it and its unacceptable is clearly going to mean people react badly when hearing it. Its not the meaning or the history of the word that causes the shock when its said, its the pavlovian conditioning of being told to react that way.kidshuffle wrote:^thats a whole lot of bullshit imo
Can't tell me everybody in 2014 is offended by the word because of its actual meaning, 99% of people don't even know what it means.. and most of the time its not even used in a derogatory way. The way a word is said and the context its said is just as important in deriving meaning than the actual sound you make when saying it.
History or ignorance doesn't explain why people get offended when a white person sings a song with the word ****** in or quotes someone who said it (in a non-derogatory way). Training people to be offended by that sound does.
As CK said in his bit, "N-word" implies the word ******.. your brain registers it as the same thing, its essentially the same word.. the fact one is offensive and one isn't is the result of being condition to react that way.

With regards to the word ******...there are plenty of reasons that, as a man of color, it offends me. For one, I'm tired of other races always trying to be included in everything we do. Magma already nailed it in his post: why do "you" feel the need to be entitled to saying ******? Does it really affect "you" that much, and does it offend you that you have to use another commonly used word?
Do I really care about a white person singing a song and saying ******? No. We wrote the songs, we understood what was going to happen considering how much white people love our music. Just show some respect, like those original white pioneers in hip hop culture before you - because hip hop is what ruined it. I don't know how many of you have seen the video where Lord Jamar says that white people are guests in the house of hip hop, but I agree with it on a couple topics. This is one of them. I have nothing but love for guests in my house, provided you follow certain rules of respect, and the use of the word ****** is definitely near the top of the list. He uses an example of sports leagues as an example to contrast. "Yeah, we here at the nba/nfl/etc love your game, but when you're on the bench, injured or at a press conference, you're going to be wearing business attire - no XXXL tees and chains. Sorry, but you're guests in our house". We've had to follow rules in order to be integrated into the white majorities society - show some respect and do that same.
Now for the real topic. Do I care about when a non-black person comes up to me, and says "whats up ******?"/"my ******!", because they listen to hip hop or just to feel accepted? Of course I do. ****** isn't just a term for "dude" or whatever was said earlier in the thread, being a ****** comes from a common experience and heritage. I'm from one of the original black communities in Canada, where slavery was around before the nations founding (but our government tries their hardest to sweep it under the rug), where the Underground Railroad ended, and where the British sent

Right.
Can we move onto the MF-word now?
No mum's on here to require us being empathic & sensible.

The way you keep saying 'we' and speaking as though black people are a separate entity to white people is a bit counter productive is it not kidshuffle?

If you end up in argument like that you probably don't accessorize enough with the plethora of differently coloured adopted kids every civilized person would have at their disposal by now.
