Always happens to any distributor that begins to have a monopoly on certain genres.

Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
Quite a big hit, I hope the labels find another way to distribute their music.

Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
this gone wild.
so why exactly did it happen? i doubt it's because of the mentality.

Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
can we assume that when they decided to focus on core labels they liked this probably meant they cut all but the most profitable and that wasn't enough to keep them afloat

Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
what labels did they cut back on a few months back?
did they just stick with dnb for the most part?

They cut most of labels, from over 170 to 30 and most haven't really been confirmed. http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=24721chekov wrote:what labels did they cut back on a few months back?
Nope, they had been cutting back on a lot of DNB labels over the years in favour of "bass music".did they just stick with dnb for the most part?

Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
What actually happened is pretty simple the business was owned by two brothers Andrew and Chris Parkinson, Chris left some time ago and was really the man behind the music side and Andrew was the money man. The staff that were there had worked there for a while and could hold it down but recently a few staff members left and replacements could not be found, its that simple they were making money and ran a tight ship but without the staff you simply can not run a business. The idea was to scale it down but when ST dropped so many labels some of the ones they kept on left and the decision was made to close.
Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
^ won't believe that based on a random post online but it sounds plausible. I did think when they cut it back to 30 saying it'll be "returning to its roots" that they wouldn't drop Deep Medi, too much £$£. Its quite nice seeing people do their own thing again, doing the whole package themselves. Even if it means only 2/3 self released releases come out a year, its nice to see people starting at the bottom and working their way up. Beneaths self released stuff, which has now branched into another label, is a great example of this. Just shows you don't have to do all this professional shit, SURUS EXCLUSIVES, just get some whites pressed up and sell em on a shitty bandcamp page or via email or something.

Even though I agree that it's nice to see people self releasing their stuff, not everyone likes to order online, many people myself included prefer to go to physical stores to purchase music, the bandcamp thing is cool but I'd still prefer a trip to my local wax merchant over it.Muncey wrote:^ won't believe that based on a random post online but it sounds plausible. Re: ST Holdings to Cease Trading
The problem with self-distribution from a consumer standpoint is you pay postage on every single record, instead of having one place to buy a bunch of records on different labels. At least Redeye, Boomkat, Juno etc are still doing their thing.
R.I.P. Surus. Glad I've backed up all the stuff I downloaded from there!
