What is wrong with shit?
I don't know so maybe someone could tell me. I've noticed my soundcloud these days is dead, 1 or 2 comments on tracks and nada else. I used to get 15-20 on tracks. And I know this is a slightly self indulgent post but it's happened to other people who I listen to on soundcloud and their music is reallly good (not saying mine is good or bad) and they're under the radar so to speak. Maybe they've not been recognised. Maybe it's the fact that soundcloud is flawed it used to be you could see people's comments and favourites etc who you follow on a feed but this has since changed. And It's not as if my music is bad (once again I'll let you decide) or I don't have the followers (2000+) and I do get plays-but I notice riddim or so called riddim producers seem to get a lot of comments on their tracks and everyone seems cliquey and rubs each other's backs. And then there's some seriously good music going unrecognised. I know comments and the be all and end all but let's face it everyone knows they're validation in an often empty world of producing. And I actually like some riddim or so called riddim. It's not bitterness it's all dubstep. So is the scene saturated by so many good producers of whatever so called sub genre? Is dubstep dead? What you tell me
Re: What is wrong with shit?
Make tunes, get them to the people that might enjoy them, repeat. If your number of listens isn't suffering, then all is well

I would've thought that having so many followers is reaching people who might enjoy them by default, even if it's just a fractionGenevieve wrote:Make tunes, get them to the people that might enjoy them, repeat. If your number of listens isn't suffering, then all is well
Re: What is wrong with shit?
I've noticed this a fair bit, although I've never really been a commenter on SoundCloud so I'm probably part of the problem lol,
From my experience on my own and other people I follow tracks, the plays aren't sufferring but comments are, imo it seems less people comment these days and instead just hit the like or repost button... which is still great but to me comments seem a bit more personal. The main places I see large numbers of comments these days are on promo channels, but even they don't have a great follower:comment ratio.

"Disposable" is a really nice tune

Re: What is wrong with shit?
keep in mind when you break in a new market you will expand exponentially until you reach the size of this market with in this general network. if your making big room choons and peaking out premature than maybe your choons aren't that great. if your hitting a creative, small market just make what you like and maybe you will progress or get old trying.
Re: What is wrong with shit?
I don't really post comments that often either. Maybe that's why I only have like 130 followers. I also never promote myself. So there's that.
Honestly I haven't noticed anything different with soundcloud. It seems business as usual. People on there are either producers themselves trying to get their stuff out, or someone who is there specifically to follow their favorite producer who is already commercially, or somewhat commercially, successful.

Re: What is wrong with shit?
imo its about where you can put it
like if the right blogger or channel features you thats an impact but than the interest might go down
again
thats imo is why so many of the big names put out so many remixes and stuff nowadays
but yeah if you like your stuff and its not about the money just dont worry and i have a feeling that soundcloud is slowly dying atleast for rather unknown artist anyways too many regulations and shit

Re: What is wrong with shit?
I think dubstep has definitely died down lately. And this forum is a lot quieter than it was a few years back. Times change, new styles will come in.
When I first heard dubstep it blew my mind. I'd got bored of a lot of other music, and was looking for something new, and dubstep was perfect. But now it's everywhere - you hear it on tv adverts and shows.
So, as much as I love the genre, I'm looking for something fresh to come along again.

The community aspect has disappeared.
Its not, lets all do something amazing in this sound only a few people know.
Now you have to comment bare people and stuff to get the same back or make something what gets non-heads listening. Like a bootleg.
Its all fucked.
Case in point : my most listened to tracks are a rock instrumental, a wiley bootleg and a mala bootleg.

Re: What is wrong with shit?
I agree with this. The dubstep sound is defiantly EVERYWHERE. The market has become so saturated with everyone incorporating that 140 sound that i think most people who are legitimately into it are just over it. Most people in the mainstream think brostep is what dubstep is, but if you notice (imo) people arnt really trying to make that sound anymore. We used to get a lot of "halp me soundz like Skrillexxx" type threads, but not so much anymore. And i think its just because it was a flavor of the week sort of deal and people have moved on.Simulant wrote:I think dubstep has definitely died down lately. That could be why your still getting plays, but no comments because people are just looking for new sounds but dont care as much about the music anymore.
At least thats my take on it. I could be dead wrong *shrug*
Re: What is wrong with shit?
Yeah I have made bootlegs in the past:legend4ry wrote:The community aspect has disappeared.

And with the old format I got 100 d/loads on them quite quickly. Might have to make more.
Re: What is wrong with shit?
Hey Jaydot,
Maybe the issue with soundcloud is to do with you and not the site. I mean you seem to be expecting things which is not always good in the music game. If people are blown away by your tracks and you have a solid fan base, then they should comment.
(slightly off topic) Have you had any releases?
I couldn't find any on the Internet and I was amazed because you seem pretty prolific!

Hi mate no releases no, too scared at sending to labels/don't really know how to approach themleaflet wrote:Hey Jaydot,

You're right though, people will come if the music is good just seems after 5 years in the "game" I have peaked

Re: What is wrong with shit?
Thanks for the reply Jaydot.
At the end of the day it's what you want from the music. But, a few soundcloud comments are not gonna help much. What you want is people that can help you mould your sound. A label comes to mind as they understand the industry better than anyone and are likely to help you more than soundcloud comments.
I know someone who has no soundcloud and are completly unknown and who have signed an album deal to a big label and are waiting for a massive advance to drop into their account. They may have made music that you may have heard but you won't know who they are! So it's about the music at the end of the day.
I think your music is sick. And you defenitely haven't peaked after 5 years! Your just getting started. Sorry for the rant.

Re: What is wrong with shit?
It's true. Soundcloud used to be a cool place, now it's just spam central.legend4ry wrote:The community aspect has disappeared.

I don't even get excited anymore from comments or follows because I just assume that I'm simply getting that because people are wanting to promote themselves rather than actually give me any creed.
Maybe pessimistic I know but that's the way it feels atm
