Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
Nope, it's enitrely correct. "Race" is a social construct and an "us vs them" mentality reinforces that. There's no such thing as "black people". It only exists in the realm of culture, since there is no way to scientifically determine race or 'blackness'. You could say that the notion that there is such a thing as "black people" is fundamentally racist since it assumes that all different cultures and peoples from Africa or direct African origin can be lumped in the same category, despite the great diversity on the continent. Even genetically; there's no continent on Earth more genetically diverse than Africa.RKM wrote:that's some jesslem levels there ^
The modern "black identity" was a creation of white slave owners in America to distance themselves from slaves and dehumanize black people. Some early black civil rights activists have sought to make the identity "their own", which is why it's now widely embraced by black people as a form of empowerment, but all it really does is create another "class" that the still predominantly white government can exploit politically and does so successfully.
Group mentality is stupid, it's irrational and it's dangerous because it reaffirms racism. It takes a rational person to realize that all humans on Earth are all the same in that they're all individuals..

i don't disagree with your idea of individuals nor in theory what m8son said, more just the pointless nitpicking over some bullshit detail

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
hmm thinking pretty slow today had a long weekend,
but i'm also not sure race as a social construct holds together
surely race is largely based around an evolutionary instinct to identify self with your in group/tribe/people that look like you and to fear and mistrust those that don't and through increasingly integrated society this would change

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
could it not be both?
manners are a social construct but it is also a natural instinct to be nice to each other.

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
probably a bit of both ye, my personal feeling and i'm not an anthropologist is that it is a natural instinct seen in every culture since dawn of time, in groups and out groups and that the growth of formalised society would entrench this into cultural difference

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
I like both ideas because they are critical of the way white men have done things.

Agreeing to the length of a minute doesn't create negative group thinking patterns that lead to racism.RKM wrote:so is the length of a minute and meterGenevieve wrote:Nope, it's enitrely correct. He wasn't nitpicking, he was making clear that kidshuffle's line of reasoning is destrimental to society and is at the basis of racism.RKM wrote:i don't disagree with your idea of individuals nor in theory what m8son said, more just the pointless nitpicking over some bullshit detail
Society is currently constructed in a way that reaffirms racist beliefs and m8son correctly pointed out that it's healthier for people to not think of people as being in "special groups" who;s identity is based on what skin color they happen to have.
The 'social construct of race' is based on people's instict to form groups, but it's still a social construct. You can form groups based on other, less superficial things like a mutural respect for each other's mind. When you base it on superficialities like skin color, you're creating problems, especially when you don't think of race as the social construct that it is and treat it like an inherent part of humanity.RKM wrote:hmm thinking pretty slow today had a long weekend,

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
Wow. On behalf of white people may I thank you personally for creating all songs with the word ****** in, it was a great gift. Be sure to pass on my thanks at the next black community meeting which I presume I'm not welcome at.kidshuffle wrote:Do I really care about a white person singing a song and saying ******? No. We wrote the songs
+1 what Genevieve said.. the "us vs them" mentality is backwards imo.
Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
I just checked my copy of The Chronic and I have to concede; I did see an excecutive producer credit for kidshuffle. So he wasn't lying when he said he also wrote the songs because he, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg have a similar skin color.
