Haven't read the whole thread, so I'd appreciate it if someone could/would point me in the direction of any post(s) that address the question I'm about to ask.

Why assisted suicide as opposed to suicide in general, M8son? Do you actively draw a line between the two? Why one and not the other?

so…….

If we make the process easier - then the success rate will go up?

hold on - this is all connected….
another hometown economic story…

I have - or used to have - a little thing for coffee shop culture…
For a long time it was my dream to have an
- electronic music oriented
coffeeshop/meetingplace/resource center/late night music venue

just a lil' something that could work both day and night…on the regular

So for awhile I was making a point to go to all the places
see how they did it - check out the spaces - drink some coffee etc.

So I go to this coffeeshop at the beach…
which was more on the lines of a high end patisserie…
very blue blood - very Connecticut

and the coffee was just - wooooooo so good
They actually roast it there...
- and I was watching the proprietor
turning a batch and talking to someone about it…

and he looks over at me - sneers - and goes…

"Oh great - another one…"

I was so completely deflated.

I can't really say that I'm complaining per say…

because I really enjoyed what they were doing…
and I learned a lot about their business model in the…
6.8 minutes that I spent there listening…

But my feelings were hurt.

Why did he think of me as a - potential detracting competitor?

If anything I was an unshakable supporter.

What?!! I'm still talking about suicide…

Are you guys not following?

…it's ADHD

I'll just abbreviate it into a simple sound bite then…

Don't make it easier for people to kill themselves,
Make it easier for them to - not be depressed.

…but the reality of my logic is bound to come back and spite me I'm sure...
…with a suffocating flood of preternaturally good or indistinguishable competition.

I just remember from the movie Steve+Sky…
The guy says - "She's the best loser I know."

At least we know that.

Is this a serious question?

There's basically no point in expending effort either legalising, criminalising or debating suicide - it's not like you can prosecute or punish someone who's dead.

You need laws around assisted suicide, because an involved-party is left over at the end who can feasibly be charged with murder depending on how much of an active role they took.

This answer seems so obvious I can only think I've misunderstood the question.

Yeah I know why we'd have laws around it, so to speak. I'm getting more at the opening post and thread title, in which he advocates for the legalisation of assisted suicide specifically.

It's still illegal in the UK, right? Are Switzerland still the only ones to let it go?

So your saying specifically….

A person who is not experiencing a terminal issue….
But rather, has some extenuating circumstance…
That makes their life - "hellacious"…

a disability - a mental disorder

like - if a paedo shows up and says his life is nothing without the children…

Should he go through 8 years of counselling like a transgendered
before they get the ok for that sex change…

Should they go through their whole life like buddha
who figured it out late in his life…under the bodhi...

I'm saying that you shouldn't be incarcerated for trying to commit suicide. I also disagree that any person should belong to a country, which from my understanding is the reason behind the law.

Suicide hasn't been a crime in the UK for over 50 years and the last US states repealed their laws in the 80s, IIRC.

It would be very silly. That's why it doesn't exist.

In the US you can still be forcibly detained in a mental institution (which you'd be paying for) if you fail a suicide attempt.
