what.....? every track that has considerably blown up in dubstep has got its own vibe, because of the detail gone in on ambience. just given you an example of minimalism with lots of sampling to give its atmosphere whilst the main components being the drums and sub. it has pretty much glued the track together.
please list examples of (relevant) "thin and pathetic" minimal dubstep so i can attempt to understand your post. i tried thinking "what tracks are dope that consist just of beats and bass", and i thought of headhunter - clone, then twisup vip, then toadstep... but they all have atmospheric elements

hell even cyrus' early shit was 100% beats and bass but it still had its own vibe to make each track unique...

theres some really bad 'minimal' dubstep on sc by amateur producers where theyve clearly tried to strip the tune down and its just bland/boring
it really comes down to makin sure each sound you use is interesting on its own and making sure you fill up the spectrum with just a few sounds
and it has to have a vibe obvs
sometimes its really impressive how big names manage to use like 3 elements in a tune and it still sounds so full and big

When it doesn't have you questioning the ideas and motives behind the sounds . A good minimal track has me questioning "what's the reason behind this, what's he saying here with all this open head space" .
I think both extremes, a super minimal track like that xxyyxx one (forget the name) and an overtly complicated one like something off Cosmogramma, succeed when you feel slightly hypnotized or numb. like after one too many bong rips. Spaceeeyyyyy
I found a way to get piece of mind for years and left the hell alone, turn a deaf ear to the cellular phone

If it works it works, I don't get why it is sloppy?
