Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
I don't see why you should have that reaction. If you understand what the word means and the context in which it is used then it's presence shouldn't have any effect on your ability to take the lyricist seriously.JizzMan wrote: You know whats weird though is when supposedly conscious rappers drop the N-word over and over. I mean the aim with their music is usually to spread a positive message but if they just keep calling everyone else a ****** their music loses half its relevance imo. Cos ffs you're trying to get us to understand your plight but if you keep using words that we can't, we're automatically less inclined to take you seriously

Man you are so unnecessarily argumentative.
You probably get into heated debates with yourself about the relevance of wanking.
Stop being such a wanker m8.

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
True, maybe i should just ignore it jesslem. Tbh that is what i end up doing cos i have no other choice
but i guess thats whats crazy about it, when supposedly socially aware MC's hold on to that word as if its some great privilege to be able to use it, when all that word really is, is a grim product of some terrible history
I guess you could flip this and say the word is integral to making the music sound more authentic or whatever, if thats your angle then i hardly have the real life experience to talk against that.

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
The ameleoration/reclaimation of the N-word becomes irrelevant when it's still widely considered derogatory-you wouldn't expect people to greet each other over the counter in Mcd's with the N-word (can you imagine it-"Yo ****** I'll have 12 chicken nuggets and a vanilla shake).......so why keep it to rap music etc. Once you pepper each track with the n-word it starts to lose what black people originally sought out to do and that was make the connatations of it less strong. Why hasn't the word "paki" had similar treatment?? Probably because it has racial connatations and always will, yea you don't have the rap platform to promote it as a less derogatory word but still
Re: White people dropping the N-word thread
Paki doesnt rhyme with as many things

Re: White people dropping the N-word thread

Ofc, we could do a lil wayne and rhyme Paki with Paki
But most of us aint so bothered about that word to really think about using it. In asian rap (which is fucking terrible btw, dont bother searching) ive never heard anyone use it

Societal programming is that we are all the same, but it is patently obvious if you have any proximity to the truth that we are very different.JizzMan wrote:Regardless of our heritage or skin colour, most of us realize that ultimately we are all the same. But even though this is no new epiphany to society, we still often choose to divide ourselves over race.
