RESAMPLING

Post by Ema_geodiV » Tue Aug 05, 2014 12:26 am

So ok everybody loves the process of resampling because that's the time you get creative and such. But in my world, I only resample my basses and my "weird sounding leads and synths" I never really resample most of the other. I actually just let it be with the patch itself. Do you guys do that too?

feel free to share your resampling techniques. :Q:

There is a lot of different way to aboard "resampling", from the only cut of a sample to 20 vst modulation.
There is vst like Harmor or Albino that allow to resample inside the vst.

I usually resample by using phasers, wow filter, distortion... I think it is some of the most common stuff

I found this MARVELOUS plugin that is excellent in resampling. And you don't have to do any fancy root work or fucking around with to get the right sound going. Its not like stupid plugins where you tweak stuff around to start with the tone, then go through a bunch of bogus before you start to resample, this one from startup, is wave modulators, distortion, and internal processing and sampling ! It released a few months ago and its really unknown. But for being so unknown, its super cheap compared to regular plugins that are like 400 bucks -.-

The best is, with all the internal processing, this thing makes some gnarly growls.

I'm just wondering after finding the same post in about 10 threads.. Do you need any help finding more old links/threads or other websites where you can post your promotion? :P

Funny... Haha. Really though, way back when I first picked it up I was given the opportunity to work with this developer team individually to help debut the product. And they're a wonderful team of small indie developers and I figured id try to give them as much shout out as I could to return the favor :)

Wrong site buddy, move along. people are here to ask certain questions and receive answers about sound design and instead they receive this promotion crap. Kind of annoying don't you think?

Here's just a few of the things I sometimes do during resampling. Hopefully some of these could be useful for someone:

- Take a synth melody from a previous track and put really heavy time stretching and spectral manipulation on it to make it into an atmospheric layer that can give a pad sound interesting movement when layered together.

- Crossfade one bass sound into another, into another, etc... to create a single morphing bass sound that would be impossible to synthesize otherwise.

- Pitch shift a sound away from its root key with a certain algorithm, then pitch shift it back to the root key using a different algorithm.

- Load a sound into Ableton's sampler and set up a short loop. Map the loop start to a macro and morph through a sound like it's a wavetable... record while you're doing this. You can get crazy neuro sounds when doing this.

- The "random plugin" game: make a bunch of slips of paper with all different plugins and effects, put them into a hat. Then pick one out, and whatever it says, you have to do. At each stage, try to create the optimum sound using each plugin, then move on. I'm not joking with this one, I've done this and gotten some amazing sounds (and to be fair, some really, really crappy ones, but that's the way it goes no matter what you do).

Anyway, those are some ideas. Mainly, just try shit out and see what happens. There's no downside (except maybe your time), and every so often you'll be like "holy crap, I have no idea why that sounds so good, but it does!" And just like that, you've elevated your sound design game!
