I don't know what kind of music you make, really. What genre?

Tape, you wanna multitrack to tape?

What is your anticipated process with recording these one shot?

You gonna record your own voice?

for rough vocals any half decent mic will do, then you can do good recordings at a proper studio tbh. you asked a similar question in another thread no?

whats a good small desk mixer?
Depends on how many channels you need, I've recorded stuff through DJ mixers before. :6: Mackie's are the best budget option IMO.

any 2-track will do. TradeMe (again) is the best place to go nowadays, getting good tape stock is the hard part

So how much do you want to spend for the female vocal mic?

Dude, it is so variable. People will tell you x mic for female but some people like dull mics to round out the ladies, or some like bright and breathy to capture the silk. It all depends on your singer and what you want.

Of all the stuff you mentioned a mic like this is the only thing that you really need. Other stuff is better/cheaper/easier in software. I believe in those other things, but not if youre just starting out, or have to ask questions like these.

With a mic like that, likely an ldc phantom powered mic, you're going to need a pre with phantom power, maybe on a board, a dedicated pre, or a pre on your audio io.

Wish I could say more but I'm like morse code to text.

In your shoes I'd just pick up a mic, decent interface (if you haven't already got one) and if you really want some analogue stuff get some cheap guitar pedals for adding drive etc. For a starter setup that will get you a long way and still keep a nice workflow.

Neumann tlm170 or u87. KMS105 is nice as well though. A large membrane condenser anyway.
Mackie or Soundcraft desktop mixers are nice.
Any Studer reel to reel in good condition. I wouldn't dabble with digital recorders honestly.
Decent mic-pre and converter and you can go straight into the computer. Mackie's Onyx pre-amps are quite nice for the money and they also offer small mixers that have separate converters per channel.

Is nice as well, but a tube mic as your only mic is usually not advisable. MT Gefell make nice clean tube mics though. I recorded male vocals on one of those once, really pleasant sound.
They are more in the €2000-3000 price range.

For a more budget option, check out the Audio-Technica AT4047.

I like 4047 on male voice. Again, just me, and my taste of what I like to hear.

People really in the mic game tend to trade up, so IMO used mics are a very good deal. I'd make sure you have some type of buyers protection like eBay, don't know if y'all use the bay.

Good thing the nightingales didn't properly convey my first message.

Which went like, "Asking this is like asking 'How do you make music?' There is a lot to it."

But dude, fugget about trying to record one shots and shit like that. Just use samples. Okay, the female voice, as I've said, okay you might need a mic for that, or you can also use one of ten million acapela's. Mixer... for what gear? You're going to need gear to necessitate that, gear you don't seem to have. On top of that, you're going to need cabling and whatnot.

Forget all that.

Good computer. Good software. Decent Audio I/O. Good monitoring. Good room.

That is a good start. Work towards that. You can have, and express good musical ideas with that setup.

All that analog shit, I totally believe in all of it. I use it. I've got that AT4047. I've got a stereo path of pre, comp, eq. I've got some samplers and synths. Some fx. I use that stuff. But just cause I like it better. But I don't use it exclusively. I do do tracks exclusively in the computer with samples that I've sampled, or made, or premade samples, and vst synths and shit,, mixed and mastered all in the box.

I think it makes sense to start in the computer and work your way out. It is just SO MUCH EASIER. If you wanna be renegade and a badass, and be an analog boss, get ready for it, cause it is gonna be hard to get to the point where you are capturing quality label (A) distribution worthy material. And asking a question like in the OP does not suggest a hardcore core of analog bossyness.

In the words of that hot bitch Genevieve, "gnome sayin?"

Am I tripping or have you still not posted a budget? That is really the thing. AxeD there is telling you to buy $2k pieces of gear. Shit adds up on a lark.
