I just passed the LX0-101 exam today, part one of the two part exam for the Linux+ certification. It wasn't pretty but it was a pass. This exam was tricky, it was all command line commands and options which there are thousands. On to the LX0-102.
Damn, what a journey on this one. I passed the LX0-102 on Tuesday after failing it the first time at the end of June. It cost me a scholarship. Glad to have it done and move on.

The Linux+ certification exam (well, two exams) is all command line and there are hundreds of commands and command options to remember. In real life, if you don't remember all of the options you can run the man command in Linux or look it up on the internet, but for this exam you have to have it all in your head. I really only had three weeks to study for this exam which wasn't enough time but my term was ending. This exam was the final exam for that particular class and I didn't have enough time to re-take it, therefore in came in at 10 credits for the term instead of the 12 I needed for my scholarship. This was my first term there and I went on the advice of my advisor, but had I known better I could have easily done the required credits but I ended up taking four certification exams back to back. During this time the school realized that they were not allotting enough time for this exam because so many people were having a hard time with it and they changed the credits from 2 for the LX0-101 and LX0-102 each to 3 for a total of 6 instead of 4 for the whole certificate exam, therefore more time allotted to study for the exam. I also got a full time job, so I was trying to get used to that and studying when I got home, so it really was a combination of things.

bloody subnetting :u:

it's difficult work coaxing my brain into actually doing some proper LEARNING, but it seems to be working.

gonna be dreaming in 1 and 0's i'm sure...

still much to do on my path to CCNAdom, I'm enjoying it!

You got it. Once you get subnetting down it will become second nature. I tried to type a chart that I created out for you but I accidentally deleted it. Let my know if you want to know my method and I will take a picture of my chart and put it on my server.

Can you show me the subnet mask for a /22 network? How many usable IP addresses are there?

Can you write the binary for 134.72.211.24?

is it 255.255.252.0 with only 2 usable ips? EDIT: 14 usable ips I think...

10000110 01001000 11010011 00011000
Yes, your subnet mask and your binary are correct.

/22 is 2^10 which is 1024. Then - 2 for the network address and the broadcast address so there are 1022 available IP addresses for a 255.255.252.0 subnet mask.

See, you are well on your way.

Have you gotten into route summarization? Your binary translation skills well help you there.

I'm a coder. Have been for about 12 years now. Right now I am using C#, PHP, Node.js, Javascript, HTML, CSS. I'm currently writing a micro controller in C for a midi controller I'm working on. Well, it's a modified Launchpad, but a very cool project.

Finished up an 80x86 assembly course. Did all sorts of advanced stuff. Happy to brain dump most of that. What a pain in the butt.
