Wisdom Teeth

I tell you what, mate: I’m definitely not sick of what Wen is doing at the minute. Not at all. Far from it. I’m super into it. Simple layers, driving sub work, sampled melodies and choice vocal snatches. It’s not rocket science. It’s simply darkly functional music. The type of music we got so wrapped up in way back when that we started this website. So it’s super nice to note that there are still people just stepping into it for the first time themselves, taking the plunge with their own music, content, art or whatever. In a world where you can fully build a festival brand on YouTube with a logo and some pictures of airbrush perfect page 3 models casually lounging in those fucking oversized, obtusely angular sunglasses, it’s reassuring to feel that there are newcomers squadding up to create real life things you can actually hold.

Take Facta (Idle Hands/Soundman Chronicles) and K-Lone (Chord Marauders/Mindstep) who’ve decided to take the plunge himself and start a label, Wisdom Teeth, with a split 12” from Wen and Facta.

Citing the ability to “trace sonic connections between different new artists making varied but similar strains of soundsystem music” it’s pretty obvious from speaking to Facta, learning what he’s got coming up and listening to the music that his gang are in it for the right reasons and being the paunched and cynical one in the conversation it’s neat to note the sheer level of his excitement at it all. “Wisdom Teeth is all run DIY by me and K-Lone, including distribution, design and everything – with addition of illustration work by young illustrator Cressida Djambov.”

“The plan is to release split 12″ singles showcasing the latest and (in our opinion) most exciting developments in the UK scene (and beyond),” he continues in his email soliloquy. “There’s so much great music coming out in that undefined space between techno, dubstep, grime, funky, and so on, that we just wanted to be able to provide an outlet for some of it.”

poliwhirl is the one. sonically it reminds me of 2008-ish Zomby material, but structured.
