Re: ALS asc. income breakdown
I reckon it's even more difficult to notice the advances with all the de-acceleration of technological advancements going down, making sure there's room on the market and time to spend on each product.
Like with pentium standards or how everything is an update now(beta?).
Or how there's chipsets in some electrical products that turn them off after guarantee runs out.
Even alternative medicine has a positive effect on big pharma because it doesn't work most of the time ironically by it's very nature, but points in that direction.
It's highly unlikely that a patient only tries alternative medicine..
There is one positive advancement I can think of though.
Atleast (in a european context) it's now mandated that pharmacies and doctors advocate the cheapest variant of medicine, despite it being a cheap copy or a non-patent product.
It's not a Tin Foildora

You are absolutely right. There's no question that medicin is both wallet and skin colour dependant. It's so gross.
It's racism in economic form. Another thing about it that is truly offensive is how it's common in medicine to use the threat of a disease that only could exist under for example African conditions, saying it's likely to hit the rest of the world and then still not focus the money on the problem. Like they want the disease alive so they can spread fear and get money.

They ARE the patent trolls, do everything they can to milk the puss out of the suffering poor before someone can make a truly reasonable alternative...nobody wrote:I wonder if pharmacy companies have problems with patent trolls too

Re: ALS asc. income breakdown
They're on like $100m now.. regardless of their ridiculous salaries, which was 2013 so they'll probably be on some banker-type bonuses this year, what exactly did they say they'd spend the money on/need the money for?
The way I see it charity is just a way of redirecting cash from those who don't typically need it to people who do need it.. but the idea of a charity instantly installs the assumption that they need it when in reality some charities simply don't need $100m and it'd be hugely wasteful.
Thing is because its been such a hugely successful fad where people will just remember the videos, the donations will be forgotten about so they could just piss away the $100m and no one would be none the wiser.

Re: ALS asc. income breakdown
Heard a jokes reply from someone that had been nominated, he's like 5k people die a year from ALS, 3million a year die for lack of clean drinking water, and the ALS challenge is about dumping clean drinking water, and giving money to some rich guys with a little left over to give to research to save 5k people.
Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, pretty much.
Re: ALS asc. income breakdown
Didn't Matt Damon throw toilet water over his head to make a point haha.. loads has been said about the clean water aspect and I think its too easy to attack those who are gunna become millionaires from this.. ignoring those aspects is it still a worthy cause?
I had a quick look and all they seem to suggest is the money goes towards "research". $100m on research? What exactly are they expecting for that sort of money and what could they have done with $10m, what could they have done with $1m? Do they estimate with $1m donations the research could bring about a cure in 10 years? $100m brings that down to 2 years?
Theres absolutely nothing to suggest what the money will be spent on and why they even need that much money in the first place. Surely their research team wasn't at a cross roads where they thought "right we can do no more here until we get a research budget of $100m and then we can make some progress".
I won't lie I've not looked into it but it comes across as hugely wasteful. I'd guess there is no scientific evidence to prove this money will bring about a cure at all and very little to support that $100m will bring about huge progresses that wouldn't have been possible without it.
People still think you can throw money at things and, if its enough, it'll fix it.

Re: ALS asc. income breakdown
Well, I'm totally broken, if any body feels that way, you're more than welcome to throw money at me.
Re: ALS asc. income breakdown
What will you spend it on? Research? Worthy cause imo.
Its just baffling to me that they wouldn't elaborate more than "research" and don't go into specifics at all.. like what type of research and how exactly that research is going to help people.. why it couldn't have been done before $100m of donations.

I'm gonna go have an MRI to find out if I have claustrophobia.

Ooo you missed a trick there, you didn't need to go into specifics about what research you're going to be conducting if you managed to get everybody to act like sheep and do something dumb like run into a door.nowaysj wrote:Yep, I need a full body MRI and a complete genetic sequencing, with no health insurance. Its like charity sleight of hand, don't want them to ask too many question.. or any at all.. start a dumb internet craze.

hmmm
Shoot a video of you deleting your facebook account, or send me a check for $500. As my 9yo daughter says, if you don't do it, you're a bad person.
The money will go to the nwjlackingsufficienthardware fund, to help end the silence in his studio. END THE SILENCE.

Honestly, she's said it to me like 5 times, I don't know where she picks this stuff up from.
I'm more concerned about the ice water being some occultic baptismal ritual.

I also had someone dump ice water on my head, but I was raising awareness
for salivary gland cancer. Kind of poking the ALS bear if you will. Your move bear.
