Re: ISIS Beheader Had a British Accent
thinking about it
what the caliphate goon did to Foley
is pretty much the same as hegemonists did to Jesus
the jews condemned him for not being compliant with their cultural norms
and the Romans sent a terrorist message to any would-be usurpers of their loosening grip on power
all about fear
the fear of suspecting your beliefs are addled shit,
just like any bully's lack of courage to confront their own inadequacy.
Oz has at least 100 homegrown fighters with ISIL.
The ones that are identified in the papers were gangsters here.
I just wonder if any of the others are good, upstanding citizens, defending their faith without resorting to savagery.

I know it's the Spectator, but...

Oh, and re: George Pell - he's also a climate change denier. What an awesome combination - religious dogmatism and lack of critical thinking skills.

When "cool" goes horribly, horribly awry.Earlier this month, Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary from west London appeared in a photo he himself posted on Twitter. He is pictured holding a severed head with the caption ‘chillin’ with my homie, or what’s left of him’. This is all part of the strange juncture that Syria has become for British jihadis — a meld of street cool, Islamic extremism and ultra-violence.

Re: ISIS Beheader Had a British Accent
this is nuts
love Jason Burke
ediiit
the most interesting aspect is the smooth image they want, like everyone's talking about the editing on the Foley video etc,
the bit in the town square comes across like some American evangelical shit, which is pretty

Re: ISIS Beheader Had a British Accent
that tells me that america needs to accept that this is a battle of ideas, not just muscle. treating it as a traditional war is just stalling the problem. the only way extremist religiosity will ever dissipate is through educating and informing people. america needs to win the battle of ideas, and persuade peoples' minds, cause if that many people are convinced of fundamentalist Islam, we're doing a pretty bad job.

America trained and armed ISIS, get real.

This is too funny:

Saudis = wahhabism = ISISjags wrote:that tells me that america needs to accept that this is a battle of ideas, not just muscle. treating it as a traditional war is just stalling the problem. the only way extremist religiosity will ever dissipate is through educating and informing people. america needs to win the battle of ideas, and persuade peoples' minds, cause if that many people are convinced of fundamentalist Islam, we're doing a pretty bad job.
Saudis = oil
USA <3 oil
USA <3 Saudis
USA = ISIS

How is that not real?nowaysj wrote:America trained and armed ISIS, get real.
I don't disagree that the US indirectly armed and possibly trained some of the militants before they were "ISIS." America is also funding them indirectly by pouring so much money into the Sunni allies in the Persian Gulf, who then fund ISIS.
But that's completely unrelated to public opinion in France nowaysj. You sound very tin-foil-hatted when you argue against one thing with a completely unrelated point and then say "get real."

Re: ISIS Beheader Had a British Accent
Man you are annoying. Your premise is that we are not doing enough to combat the philosophy of ISIS. My premise is that your premise is ridiculous when we are actively training and arming these people, we are not combating their philosophy, we are arming it, and helping it spread.
