Joe Biden would become president. MSNBC would yell about it for a while. Nothing would really happen. The guy would get caught. He'd be put on trial and go to jail for life. Nothing would really happen. Fox would find a twisted way to defend it.

The police shoot MB shortly after a felony robbery, after snapping the bone in a cop's face, MB potentially having some kind of juvenile 2nd murder business going on, and there were how many days of looting, there were secondary shootings, military had to be called in to restore order,... vs the first black president gets shot by some kkk dude, or some gun owner dude... you don't think there would be looting/riots in every major city in the country? Really, honestly? Stressing the 'honestly' part.

Ferguson is up in arms about systematic police abuse and endemic social conditions really. Obama being killed by a racist is A unusual and B something that would piss all races off (if in different ways maybe). A lone white assassin isn't quite the same as an institution. There might be more interracial violence after though...

I agree with some of that, re the discrepancies, but I think this would be perceived as a kind of final straw in race relations.

Re B, there are quite a few (white) people that would be celebrating in the streets, and I don't think that'd help things at all.

The difference is what Jon Stewart said in that clip - "why hold police officers to a higher standard than gangs (in Chicago)?" the same applies to the KKK. the KKK is by definition a horrible organization. we expect them to do shit like that. the police are supposed to protect black people, and that's why people are more upset when the police kill a black man than when a crip kills a black man.

regardless of your opinion of the facts, which is ultimately meaningless cause you weren't there and they haven't released all of the facts yet, it is many peoples' perception that "protecting" is not the right word to describe what happened that day.
