The Origins of the Rusko/Caspa/Skrillex bass sounds??

Post by O_o Feasible-Weasel » Sun Mar 23, 2014 7:58 pm

8) 8) so anybody who has been around since i would consider 2004 forwards..
i spoke to a Garage DJ from the 2step days up to now and he mentioned the massive Vst which came out in 2004, i can only presume it was by Niche/Bassline house producers..the earliest of this style of Transformer sound, i found on an old Agent X mix cd from 2005/2006 even though they were faster in those days..i remember from being here in 2007 people in the production form starting shifting to 2step drum patterns and used to download Niche/Bassline sounds..as originally dubstep wubs were more like their dub equivalents

the storming productions stuff (caspa's old label). had stuff from s&d, dj narrows, dubchild etc

can't really pinpoint to a certan producer or tune or w/e tho. the sounds were there from dnb

the basic idea of gnarly sounding oscilated bass is a bit older than dubstep

Yeah this. Lots of similar mid-rangey sounds in D&B 1996 onward (especially around 99-2000)

wasn't clownstep the shit TC and the likes were pushing around '05? I only remember it being used to describe the incredibly formulaic stuff the jump up-guys were releasing aswell.

I'd say these tunes had a really strong impact on early dubstep/brostep bass/midrange sounds. It may have existed before this, but this is where the dubstep producers specifically drew a lot of influence from imo. caspa & rusko at least. not so much skrillex.

can't narrow it down to el-b tho imo

i mean, just look at the storming productions catalogue. those tunes sound more informed by metalheadz, no u turn, breaks and dark 4/4 garage like dj narrows, sirus, agent x etc

and yeah, like it was mentioned before, let's not underestimate the influence tearout dnb from hazard & playaz, which was (/still is?) massively popular, + bad company (and the slew of immitators that followed)

Makes sense with the 4x4 garage scene to heavily use massive back in the day. You can make some sick garage sounds on it. Am I right in saying there was a preset on it that was the exact same bassline chase and status used on saxon?

I can't remember. But it was EXACTLY bang on the same. I'm surprised it was even tweaked a tiny bit to avoid people just straight ripping off their sound

I just can't look past drum and bass for first using that sound. Maybe quite a few releases after 2004 used massive? After the demand for that sound became so huge. The below album was 2004
