yeah thanks but those sort of anime threads are mostly people that don't mind the bad bits about anime. It would be cool to get it from more just a film perspective.
tbh ghost in the shell and akira can stand next to classic film, but there's a long way inbetween.

I really liked Metropolis which takes inspiration from the silent one. But outside of that I've not seen a huge amount so not much to compare it to tbh.

Saw Blue is the Warmest Colour this morning. Well worth a watch, a deserving Palme winner

Yeah big up Jesus for dying for our sins and netting us a public holiday in the process.

Also, hot cross buns.

Her (2013)
Slept a bit on this one. I liked it but then again I wasn't blown away by it either. Good concept and visually quite stunning! It was a bit melodramatic for my taste though.

The Rover (2014)
At first I was tempted to say not as good as Animal Kingdom, but then after letting it sink in a bit, it was a damn good movie! Pattinson was unconvincing (but it could have been worse) but I'm really a big fan of Guy Pierce (except for his Blasphemous inclusion in Brometheus). It's no mad max copy either, far from it. I've seen so many good Australian movies recently (Van Diemen's Land and Snowtown being the absolute winners). Not perfect, but all in all one of the better bits I've seen this year along with Nebraska (technically 2013) and Locke.

Still have to see Lucy and Guardians sometime....

Outland

Space western. Classic.

Image
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Enjoyed how it was filmed, chubby Jeremy Renner was jokes.

Image
Expendables 3

Holy christ, this was ridiculously over the top  Was enjoyable in a stupid kind of way. They pushed Rousey HARD in this one.

Image
The Last Stand

Also very stupid. The poster tells you everything you need to know about this film's tone.

it's kinda like an artsy sci-fi film. pretty trippy, I'd recommend it too. I reckon best not to know too much about it, I had no idea going in.

I thought it was pretty good. Not quite as amazing as some of my mates made it out to be but still decent.

How does it make no sense? The plot it pretty simple to be honest.

what I've watched in the last few weeks, just one line write ups this time

2001 A Space Odyssey - mindblowing, a definite must-see
Cinema Paradiso - surprisingly interesting and moving, the long version is where its at
Ip Man and Ip Man 2 - awesome, doesn't fully stick to the truth but damn they were good fun
The Savages - funny yet moving, Hoffman nails yet another movie
Everything Must Go - had it's moments, but fairly simple comedy/drama combo
Dom Hemmingway - funny in parts but overall not really worth it
