To be honest, from experience. You would just need a fairly decent patch off the bat from massive. Something with a sawtooth lfo wave for example and once you have that then you can do post processing. Add fx such as a tight delay, possible flanger, eq'ing etc to give it a more metallic-y effect and hopefully you've found what you're looking for!
Good luck!

And that's how I've usually made those wonkier basses, but these are literally just massive. Also layering with different positions on the phase on the mod osc and on the comb - gnarly difference.

Here it is!
Reverb's dry / wet is a little under half and the size is about 5 ticks up
6 LFO is a sine shape with 2 / 12 ratio.
If you dig this sound, peep the second drop and drop some love <3

Just to further the point of you really don't need malstrom for riddim basses

honestly square with a phaser modulation and flanger gets the most basic riddim sounding stuff. And also dont forget the throw envelopes on a cutoff of your choice!

Mate, that's fucking awesome! I've been playing around with riddim stuff lately, but haven't done anything as good as yours, fair play.skagz wrote:Been getting some fatty basslines in massive lately, may do a tutorial on the one at :14

Re: HUGE Riddim basses in Massive
i find fm synthesis with external effects are the way to go, my reason for saying this is that massive is too detective, especially with phase modulation, i can pick it from most tracks, i do think this track is awesome though, great job, my favorite being the wet basses with a tiny bit of delay to make them springy, very nice job man

Re: HUGE Riddim basses in Massive
To be honest I'm very very impressed and I've been trying to nail this with some fm and delays but havent gotten those really wonky ones, like you did in Obelisk. How did you make that? Woah.
I need to stop changing my sig

Re: HUGE Riddim basses in Massive
yeah tbh most riddimm I hear is basic patches, and tight time processing like short delays and tight reverbs, I've heard some good riddim though!
Re: HUGE Riddim basses in Massive
I just don't like riddim that repeats the same bass for like 8 bars, needs to be a bit more variated Soundcloud
