synthetic 8-bit marimba?

Post by Jens » Sat Sep 13, 2014 2:47 pm

a pretty cool sound originally from a donkey kong game i think. I would greatly appreciate knowing how to make it if anyone has time :)

1:55, not the funky lead synth, but the other one in the background

If you're using windows (no mac version)
Theres a great free plug in called Retro boy

I've gotten similar sounds to this by using the triangle waveform
Shortening the decay, and turning up decimate (bit reduction basically)

unforantely, I only have mac so can't use that plugin :C I have got a somewhat similar sound by using two saw waves with short decay, bit-crusher and an alpass filter, but wished i had that plugin :I it could have been very useful for other stuff too. like an 8-bit accordion
