^ you mean growls specifically? Noisia at the least was running FM8 for reese bass before he was growling. There is the old rumor that skrillex was trying to copy them but I don't buy that. Unless there is a quote of him saying that, I actually think he was tweaking yoiee sounds in FM8 that lead him to the growly bass. His early stuff didn't have any traces of reese bass but had a lot of yoiee sounds. I think this is more correct because jaymac has the closest reproduction in FM8 that I have seen so far and it starts with the yoiee matrix and builds off it.
I am curious where the yoiee came from too like who started using it first. It pops up every now and then but seems to be pretty dead.

I'm still kinda curious HOW the hell do they do that weird transformers sound. not the growl ones but those weird vocaly robo sounds that I don't even know where to start if i were to try making something similar
