Injecting freshness (also taste of a very hard Kosheen remix
Hey - I'm working on a new tune (it's probably a bit over compressed - I've been working on it for a long time. http://www.mediafire.com/?ddbkdm3rd4d ).
I'm just wondering what people do to change up the vibe - you know - inject that freshness. I've seen key changes work, but what else will cut it up a bit? I can't pull off a key change here due to the vocals - or can I? Is there any way to rotate the music elements (not that there are many) Any feedback or suggestions welcome at all welcome on changing the vibe. Sorry to post the tune in here I just figured it makes sense because you can see the vibe is stale in it all the way thru.

One thing I love to do with vocals is detuning to get a simple but nevertheless very effective vocoder-like fx. For instance, insert 2 parallel pitchshifters, one at -3 semitones, the other at +3. Then you can automate one for more variation. Then add some flange or chorus...
Also it may sound boring to have the vocals from beginning to end. You could insert few bars with pads, strings or whatever else sounds melodic to replace the vocals. Then bring back the vocals for the climax...

i like what you've got there... if it were my tune i'd be reaching for pads and melodic sounds to add a bit more interest later in the tune.
make a melodic sound, go make a cup of tea, come back and record something really quickly without thinking about it, if it sucks, delete and repeat the process, often i find if i've spent too long on a tune, i need to add really simple ideas for the freshness to come back...

i like the tune, its got a badass bassline and atmosphere aplenty.
if it was my tune i would stick some police sirens in towards the end and cut the beat and bass and let a reese go bwaaaarrrrrrrrrrr.
i dont think it needs to change up too much, i reckon some interesting crashing and banging samples over the top of what you already have would sort it out. if it went ultra dirty at the end it would contrast well with the vocals and would be unexpected, which is a plus in my opinion.
but don't ask me, you're a better producer than i am anyway

thanks guys I'll be incorporating most of these ideas.
1. the crashing and banging
2. pads
3. loose the vox for a section
specifically those three make alot of sense.
The track seems to have some build down - I also think I should build and drop for the break.
Good good! Very glad I posted. thanks for the ideas!
