The Official Growl Bass Thread
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
I see true story as more of a Reece so if you're going to make that, I would process it that way.

Great thread. Learned a ton from this in the past few months. The Seamless FM8 tutorial is great as well for those looking to do fm8 growls. I think the real magic is in the automation. I've come up with some pretty decent (i think) and very vocal growl basses using fm8 with just sin waves and a few triangles modulating:
Soundcloud
I've found the patch would respond differently, almost with different vowels, based on the depth and velocity of automated parameters. I'm going to experiment with using fm8's morph function to blend/mix between a few different growl patches.

Some weird shizzles don't mind the clutter and cluster of fuck.
Got home from school and was just derping.
If anyone is interested in the shittyness of of this growl, feel free to ask how it was made, or don't. Your choice.

So I spent about 30 minutes working on this growl, and thanks to hook's "sound nugget" tip, i was able to come up with this baby here.
Feel free to ask how I made it (and if you guys want I can upload the project file too)

Toot Toot, new sounds again. Well... Basically all raw Massive patches with some Multiband Dynamics / Compression and some EQ'ing.. And Tube Distortion and Filters, which are within the VST itself though.... New to Ableton, been using it for a few days now after using Fl for a few years. Beginning to like it more and more
But, here's two new things I made tonight with Massive in Ableton.
I guess you could say that it's Epticish? Not really but I don't know...
Soundcloud
Soundcloud
Some pretty basic sounds here, no external effects besides the built in EQ8 from Ableton which any EQ could compensate for and OTT.... Anywho, if anyone is interested.. Let me know. This section / thread has been dead for awhile since some people have took their leave like Hook & Omega. I wouldn't say they're gone just not as... active? But, can't expect to mooch off of them for everything..
Gotta put our heads together at some point and get this thread rockin and rollin again.

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Test 2 sounds really cool...not just the sounds but the composition. Nice work man. You are putting that in a full track right? I really like those quick fire pip pip pips...brings on a little older dubstep nostalgia
OTT is definitely good for a growl. It helps keep it steady with all of the boosts coming from EQ modulation. Ableton rocks man!

just incase ppl didn't know about it. steve duda released a plugin that can be used out of ableton and does the exact same thing. http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=1224 (I would have linked the xfer page, but the freeware section is down atm, since they moved servers or sth.)OTT is definitely good for a growl. Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Hey guys, new sounds off of the other sounds I made earlier^
I think they sound pretty cool and a lot better. Used some different processing.
You might hear a few crackles because one of the plug-ins I used is in demo mode. But the growls are fucking far better.
I would say they're close to a Must Die! / Zomboy / Omega Mode growly type thing. I dunno, I hope you guys like them. If anyone is interested I can drop some hints at it and point you in the right direction
Soundcloud
Don't mind everything leading to the drop, that's just there for something to lead up to it. A really shitty intro and no build up with just a frequency lift / drop to glide into the actual drop heu. Enjoy!

This thread helped me a lot, made some growls for this tune here Soundcloud
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
I too have made a track due to this thread (and forum).

I can make a tutorial on any sound if people want.

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
I'm in class right now but I can try to explain it.
Really this patch is a Sinharmonic 1 or you could use Sinharmonic 2, I believe I had it on Bend -. You can find the Wavetable images here -> http://quadrophone.com/massive-wavetable-images/ .But, turn the intensity all the way down, and keep the wave table all the way up-- to the right. Turn the oscillator filter down to Filter 2, on Filter 2, use a Double Notch with the cutoff aimed toward the C/U and the Resonance aimed toward the R/E. Modulate this with an LFO of course and get it to sound how you like it. Make sure the Mix is all the way two so that it's only running through filter two, although you shouldn't have anything on filter one. Next, turn on the modulation oscillator, turn the pitch down an octave// -12.... and turn the Ring Mod, Phase, and Position all onto the Oscillator used for Sinharmonic. Turn all of those to around 75% ish. Next, turn on Restart via Gate and head into Voicing. Set it to Monophonic and set it the trigger to Legato. For FX1 use a Brauner Tube and set the Dry/wet and the Drive to about 25%, Fx2 use a dimension expander with the size all the way down and the dry wet at about 35-40%. For effects, on one insert channel in Fl Studio I had an OTT running into Fab Filter MB// Multiband Compression. OTT Fattens it up and the MBC "Puts it in chains" to quickly explain that.... Next I had it routed into another Insert, I used Fab Filter Pro-Q 2 -> Ohmicide -> Camel Phat -> Er, I can't remember the other plug-in name. Basically you can craft vowel movement EQ's in it and it will Automate as the sound plays with however you set it up. I'll come back later today and edit this to put the name in, but for now I can explain it. You can do it with your own EQ and just modulate it accordingly but this plug-in makes it so nice and so easy for you. Anyways, that's the majority of this sound from my memory. To get the sound to pitch up and down as I did in the clip, put a macro on the pitch of the Modulation Oscillator and put it up +24.00, then you can make an automation clip and set it at 50% for +12.00 and 100% for +24.00 or set it to 0% of course to bring it back to its main sound. the last thing I did was go into global and i put the global pitch down by -12.00 I believe? Another fun thing you can do is take another LFO and put it on the Oscillator of Sinharmoic 1 or 2 and set it to the Amp and modulate it so that it makes a fluttering kind of effect. It makes a cool choppy growl sound.
I hope this helps! When I get home tonight i'll update this and add pictures / more information including the plug-in name and such when I can actually go take a look at what the hell I did.
I hope this helps all who read and I hope you enjoy! if you have any troubles with this sound and for some reason REALLY want it, go ahead and shoot me a message or just reply to this asking for help and i'll see what I can do
Have a good one guys!

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Thats a good growl dude, Im gonna try using sinharmonics wavetables next time i make one. But im pretty sure if you have it on bend - and the intensity is turned to 0%, thats the same as having it on spectrum with the intensity at 100%. Doesnt matter for the sound it still ends up the same, just thought id add thatDigitalDemon wrote:I'm in class right now but I can try to explain it.

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Check out the growl i made with just the woody wavetable. I was surprised to get such a sweet sound out of such a seemingly dull wavetable. Its not much of an example but here it is...

I found, that making growls in Reason is very easy. For example, you may route signal from subtractor or malstrom to thor, where apply FM to it. Also, growl may obtained from subtractor only, with heavy detuned saws (with FM) and notch\band pass filters. And distortion, of course.

BOY DO I HAVE A STORY FOR U GUYS. I know this kind of random lol XDDDD, BUT i think i have got it all figured out. Earlier this year i got my hands on one of barely alives computers! Oh yes i did! And let me tell you they knew i was coming for it to they encrypted everything...
But alas! My superior intellect was far more powerful than their petty codes, and i took everything! BUT WAIT! They set their ableton to self destruct so i was only able to retrieve a small amount of data, and i used that data to make this! So ASK AWAY!!!!!!!!!
