El-B/Ghost Kick/Snare

How does El-B/Ghost get his snappy UK Garage-ish snares and dubstep kicks? Like in his track express.
They sound quite old, and I only have Electro House/Brostep shit snares...

not sure about the kick, the snare is not a snare though, its a rim shot
you can probs get the rim easily take a wooden sounding rim sample and just sorta rough it up with saturation etc, maybe cuts some of the highs off it so its not so harsh and boost mids a lil
the kicks nice idk how he did that its all about sample selection really, you want a really subby one and possibly a slightly higher freq one on top and then its mainly shaping the transients
actually listening again you could probably make an 808 kick sound like that with some transient manipulation whether it be compression or whatevr

The kick sounds like a bassy / club kick that has been lowpassed and eq'd to taste. Try that with any club style kick and I'm sure you will get pretty close. Look for samples with a lot of bass body to start with.

Its all about sample selection, and transient shaping. Vst or manually.

the kick is a simple 909, its not low passed much tbh, just knocked down an octave or whatever,.,, maybe rolled off from 2k hz or something, but not loads

snare is like a proper standard ukg snare loads ppl used it

i coudl have sent u literally identical samples but my laptop died so back to square one #yolo
