It works as a surviving in space film very well and also a "how did they do this?" technology show off film but the attempt to bring in the emotional side of things with the character is fucking insanely cheesy trying too hard cornball Hollywood rubbish. Only thing that would have redeemed her cheesy backstory parts would be if she'd drowned upon reentry

My top two will probably be Amour and A Bittersweet Life. I'd put Oldboy or Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring on there, but they were made in 2003.

No doubt about it. Don't get me wrong when I seen Gravity in the IMAX I was absolutely stunned by it and it's still amazing as a spectacle and for that I'd give it an 8/10, but as a piece of fiction it's pretty poor, the whole backstory to the characters that was just thrown in last second was awful.

I understand the comparison you're trying to make, but you're way off kilter. Drive is a complete movie. Plot, defined characters, no need for protracted back stories to try and establish motives.

Gravity is a thin crispy shell created to wrap around some fancy special effects.

It's interesting what we like no doubt... I'd highly recommend
'festen' if you liked the hunt.

I would say that Enter the void, Irreversible (?), R, Ghost in the shell 2 (?), Old boy, Chugeogja, The yellow sea, Windy city heat (2003), The one with Ronaldinho chasing a puma in the jungle that Mel Gibson directed, are up there. Oh and I really liked that the Cohen brothers made a serious music film today..

Trier was much better the decade before imo, not that it's bad just not a product of genious like previously imo.

saw Gravity at the IMAX. sick pictures and all, but the film is utter garbage. Sandra Bullocks' is BY FAR the worst female acting I have ever paid for, the ending shots are embarrassingly bad and every dialogue was amongst the flattest I've ever witnessed on screen. what a shit movie.

Gravity shouldn't even be in the discussion. I barely made it to the end - even worse award fodder than 12 Years A Slave.

Drive does get bonus points for being an "action movie" that kept me watching til the end... doesn't happen very often. IIRC, I think I preferred Place Beyond The Pines though... saw them both on the same weekend, I think.
