A decent laptop for running serato.

Post by step correct » Tue Oct 16, 2007 8:16 pm

So yeah I got the dough to purchase a laptop right now. No I'm not going to stop buying vinyl..etc.. I'm more getting it to make $$ doing house/B-more/hip-hop gigs. I guess what I'm wondering is will it run OK on a G4? Should I just stick to PC based? This is all new territory for me as I've always just rocked a desktop and never used any sort of digital music. Any feedback is appeciated.

Cool. Now I'm just wondering if I should go all out and get something I can produce on as well. My desktop is getting a little on the dated side.

Whys that?

"your paying for the brand!"

Ok, find me a laptop with 1gb of GPU and I might agree with what ever your about to say.

Oh and if your an iPod user, dont even think about having an opinion against me and or my views on an alienware laptop.

alienware was decent before dell bought them out, but ever since dell took over operations they've gone to shit.

if you're not getting a mac, i'd say go with Vaio or Toshiba.

dont plan on running an alienware for long off the battery
your nuts will probably fry too if you really put it in your lap

shouldn't be a problem. an external hard drive is the best for that though.

my powerbook worked for 4 years perfectly until i fried the keyboard. that was an easy fix too.

well i only get like 30 mins of battery life on my vaio, but i look at it more as a mobile desktop than a laptop.

even getting on decent laptops makes me frustrated because mine's such a powerhorse

Im running with a Toshiba at the moment, I dont think Ill ever go back to a desktop - only at work shall I use one!

I paid around £650 for this one and its got 1gb ram, 40gb hdd, 1.5ghz processor and a 128mb graphics card and that was 2 years or so ago. Havent had anything wrong with it, except where I use it so much a bit on the right where i rest my wrist has started to go black where the paint is starting to come off.

Mind you, i still rate it around 8-9/10 for usability and reliability.

Ive got a pre-intel mac g4 ibook with 1.34ghz and 1gb of ram and i have NEVER had a problem with Serato. Just with running out of space for music.

Actually, I usually broadcast via Nicecast with Safari (two windows open, one running a chat and some other random thing) and iTunes running behind Serato with no problems.

Good luck on running Serato for any period of time off just the battery on any computer, the interface takes alot of power.

Thanks for the input.. So Vaios are cool? I've been offered a just like new one for real cheap from some desperate clucked out college student.

How ya gonna spin a whole set on 30 min battery life? Plug it in I suppose..
Serato is kinda a hassle when some jerk is setting up toward the end of your set..I suggest showing early and having everything sorted before 9:00. :)
