I remember DSF being the primary place for people like Skream, Benga, Remadanman and alike to post free tunes up. this doesn't happen anymore, because of users being pricks basically.

I don't think this is true. Skream posted a free tune earlier in the year and got tons of love from everyone. Mala will post every now and then but he was never very active in the first place. A lot of other producers moved away from the scene and just started making other types of music, so why stay on DSF? I'm sure a lot of producers saw this place as way to get their name out and heard in the early days, but as the scene got bigger and producers got a bit more famous the forum became unnecessary in their promotion needs. Yeah, you have the occasional outburst by a producer, but this just may be a projection of their personality, not the entire forum's personality. We can't discredit all the chill people who keep normal conversations, just because of a few dickheads.

i think you're trying too hard to make this place like it used to be when it's not.

you might be right on that. Though I respectfully disagree on the decline of the forum being solely a result of the decline in popularity of forums opposed to the usage of social media.

bigger producers who still go on here only post links to buy their shit or an occasional night. that's it. not engaging or contributing with anything. they can do that on any other social media platform. it's not a loss if they don't post here.

This simply isn't true. I know you really *want* it to be the reason why the thread was edited, but it wasn't. The thread was edited because people were throwing around insults and derailing the thread with personal attacks. Which is against the rules.

and where do you draw the line on what is rude/snide w/e? can i post about a tune saying it's shit without writing an articulate half page essay on why i don't like it or will that get deleted cause it's bringing the place down ?

You can say you don't like any tune, you can say you don't like any producer, and although it would be interesting to read why, you don't need to explain yourself at all. *Personally* I draw the line at civility and the line of the rules. There's a difference, as Wub tried to respond to you before, between saying you don't like something, and being an antagonistic dickhead.


I get the feeling we're dancing around a more central issue here, you are obviously are not keen on my approach to modding the forum (or perhaps actually believe that people calling each other names is relevant to a 130 discussion), which is perfectly understandable. If you really do care, then please either report my posts, or detail a pm to the admins/mods of the forum explaining how you think I should handle things differently. In this particular case, I made some quick decisions to limit damage, they may well have been the wrong ones.

Well, no, having met/booked/chatted to Blackdown, Parris and Etch quite a lot i can personally tell you now that all three are safe. Etch could have handled the situation better but in fairness he was goaded and sniped at constantly, some people dont handle that as well as others, especially when its under the bullshit pretence of it being "Bants".
Something you were guilty of too... and not just in this case either.
No one was right or wrong in the situation in fairness.

At no point have I ever said or implied that. If you GENUINELY can't figure out the difference between saying you don't like something and shitting on someone or being snide, then this is not really something I can help you with.

I agree wholeheartedly, but as above (and this applies to more than just Etch's situation) the difference between being civil and discussing opinions and being abusive, rude and offensive is lost on a few.


As for the 'protecting artists' thing that Ultraspacial is going on about, we have never and will never give more leeway to an artist being abusive to the members on here. HENCE ETCH'S POSTS GOT REMOVED (a fact people seem to be ignoring). However, having the artists we all follow and listen to post on this forum is a big bonus that all of us users could get a lot out of.
