ott - my girlfriend started medschool earlier this year. we both study fulltime and work parttime because our parent's are poor, and it's been really tough on our relationship. we don't see eachother for days, even though we only live 5 minutes apart. when we get to spend some time together she's often stressed out, or it's just for an hour or so because I have to go to work afterwards or sth. whenever we phone, all we do is complain to eachother how shit and exhausting our day was... also, we have next to no common interests, which makes planning activities a bit difficult at times.
this all makes me sad and leaves me a bit disappointed, dissatisfied. I hope we can work out some strategies one day in order to learn how to take care of eachother despite the circumstances.

that's rough

don't mean to sound like a dick but maybe it's time to call it quits? i mean, it shows you care about her but worst case scenario what you have right now will degenerate into seeing spending time with her a chore and/or seeing her as a downer

having nearly nothing in common is shitty too. like you said, can't really do anything together. maybe you should both stretch out of your comfort zones? this way noone is sacrificing anything

Well, yes, but I can't go on a belter every other weekend. And getting fucked doesn't exactly help with reducing the amount of work that needs to be done either. We tend to dip two or three times a year, but make it count. But she doesn't like any electronic music except hard hitting german izan techno (slight exaggeration) so when I'm going to see Forest Swords I'll take some friends but leave her home.

I've been thinking about breaking up with her now and then, but it just isn't an option at the moment. The time we spend together I enjoy, even if it's just two grumpy people cuddling in bed for an hour and a half. It also helps that she really does make efforts and tries to spend time with me etc. so we do stell appreciate eachother and try to make an impression. The relationship is a far cry from stale yet. Some circumstances - and the way we try to work around them - are inconvenient, yes, but calling it quits would be a bit too early imho.
The whole thing has been working fine for three years now. Of course we had our little arguments and some minor hiccups, but all in all it's been a fucking good time. I don't want the ride to end just yet; I'm trying to figure out how to deal with the current situation without putting even more pressure on her (that's my main concern at the moment).
Regarding having stuff in common: yes you're right, we should definitely do that. It's just convenient to stay lazy and blame everything on study & work at the moment, so I don't feel compelled to do anything - if that makes any sense... But definitely a topic I want to tackle next week.

Thanks for the compassion guys. :w:

Oh I do. love getting beat up by some hard hitting 4x4 industrial allnighter. throw some old acid records in there and I'm having the time of my life.

Oh, Burbon? I consider myself more of a Gin guy; maybe we should just stay friends instead...
Thanks for the kind words.
I'm not sure common interests are even required to lead a happy relationship. What matters is that you can share your thoughts and feelings, be open about the things that bother you or make you happy. If somebody makes you feel loved, accepted and respected, gives you love and tenderness, likes the way your crooked teeth shine in the sunlight everytime you make a miserable attempt to display a smile - there's a strong chance you don't need any connecting hobbies for things to work out.
