I'm pretty sure it's about experiencing 'your self' as a continuous entity with the universe etc. It's a buddhist thing isn't it?

I've been there (I think) with DMT, but I wouldn;t be able to begin to explain it non-verbally, not ego death, but maybe beyond a break through

I used to live with a mate who had a dog for about 3 years. My mate passed away and his widowed gf took the dog on. The dog was old, slightly deaf and had mad arthritis and some other terminal shit. I was invited to say goodbye to the dog before she was to put down. And despite me not even particularly liking the dog (or dogs in general), this one was sweet, and out of respect for my mate that was gone, I went to say farewell.

No one told me the dog was being put down then and there at the dog party. Jesus christ I was not ready for that. Some EMOSH stuff. Proper got to me.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

Is that like a thing now?

To me that is beyond bizzare and I would get ultra upset if someone invited me to something like that. (not talking about this situation but in general - ie putting down a dog + dogfuneral)

Shame about your mate ofcourse. All the best. And I'm not saying i wouldn't react the same, but it's the most pretentious thing I have ever heard about.

I kind of puke in my mouth when people say that and it's unbelievably offensive tbh.

If you weren't such a nice bloke that in time will see how that is so wrong, I would make a long argument.

This a shorter one :6:

The thing is we have actual living people in the world that need help and elevating certain animals in captivity to human level, will make it much harder. Because people will literally spend their empathy on a dog instead.

It's part of the same cult behaviour we accept in western society today, where the babyfication of dogs has let to conditions where a lot of women
spend all their time (and life) in the role of caretaker and mum and actually cheapen the role of the mother or the matriarch in society.
It's usually the same people that have a tendency to get kids early (though there isn't anything wrong with that in itself), but it's not training for a human either.

Why are humans more important than dogs though? Pretty fucked up thing to say since we've practically incapacitated them from living alone in the wild.

Yeah, but there's no reason
Just boils down to greed imho. Not saying I'd let a dog eat me if it was hungry, but our 'importance' is no reason to justify moral conduct between species.

We are humans, therefore it's perfectly natural for us to think that humans are the most important species. The perpetuation of our genetic line is ingrained in all of us, like it is in all species. I'll try harder to make my species survive than any other. Within the species, I'll try harder to make my family line survive than any other.

You might be able to abstract yourself from that with drum-circle philosophy, but it doesn't make it any less true. You'd defend your Mum or your Son harder than you'll defend your neighbour, unless you're a proper wrong'n.

If you could ask a chimp, it'd probably think chimps are.

Is it fun to answer with : because they can ask you questions and stuff?

tbh ricky, there's levels to when you can ask people something and expect an answer, my opinion is not something I've just arrived at or thought up right on the spot - so when you just happen to run into (bonk into) some principle of thinking, inside your head, then for fucks sake entertain it for a while and then present something afterwards - because just taking everything back to when the fish got feet .. well it doesn't hold a lot of truth and comes off as some odd fedora party trick.
It takes courage and experience to have opinions and it won't make you smarter to only accept the sort of inescapable black and white nuances everything can be turned into in conversation.
