Caspa’s uncompromising ‘500’ album project continues with the second of three episodes. The Dub Police founder’s third artist album will eventually comprise each ‘500’ episode - plus additional productions - to create his clearest, most confident long player to date. A salute to the underground from which he, Dub Police and the whole genre took root, each ‘500’ episode takes us back to the dark sweaty subterranean clubs that this music was originally designed to complement.

No voice takes us back to that unifying underground environment with as much authenticity or energy as the iconic badman baritone of MC $pyda. Teaming up with Caspa for the episode opener ‘War Drum’, it’s an instant battle anthem that ignites with rippling roots tones before Caspa throws us into percussive commotion. A mission of pure militancy, this has ‘reload’ coded into every pristinely produced rhythmic element.
Deeper into the journey we hit ‘80’s Kid’. Seeping cinematic drama from every string strike, siren, cymbal splash and throaty bass gurgle, it’s the soundtrack to the best Ridley Scott movie that’s yet to be made. Genuinely hair-raising material, it sets the scene perfectly for ‘March Of The Marionettes’. Deep, undulating and dangerous; Caspa’s attention to drum detail creates mesmerising polyrhythmic textures while the chest-press sub bass hammers home the moodiest of messages.
Finally, like all the best stories, there’s a twist. ‘Tales Of The Unexpected’ sees Caspa applying his dynamics to D&B, creating one of his most suspense-sprung tracks in the process. Sawing bass, staccato strings and a savage sense of fun. By the end of this you’ll be demanding to hear the next ‘500’ episode imminently. It’s on its way very soon…
Caspa has started a 27-date North American tour to celebrate the 500 project.
