Mid range basses

Hi people, I've been trying to figure out how to make mid range, dark bass lines. Here are some examples:

How could I make this in massive, fm8, z3ta, or absynth. Is there any special technique to making these basses?

Sampled horns & strings & other orchestral stuff or synthesized equilevants playing chords. It sounds like there's a hi passed reese layered on the top in that Melamin track.

on that hi passed reese thing, my mate claimed the other day that was a good way to get that burial big rolling bass sound,
is that a good way to capture that, or the sort of sound in zomby-euphoria and tears in the rain
(sorry if that's derailing the thread)

Pretty sure in Archangel? he sampled the orignal Reese bass straight of the tune.

Hi pass = you take the low end off, leaving the mids/highs. I assume you mean lowpass aka taking high end off from the sound, because I haven't heard any Burial tunes with hi passed midrange basses.

But yea, if we talk about Archangel bass that's a reese of some sort, but I don't think it's just 2 saws detuned. Basically you get the reese-effect out of anything by layering two sounds with a slight difference in wavelength (pitch). The "reese bass" in Archangel sounds more like two copies of a same resampled string pad detuned and low passed.
