Mental Adventure - Cruise Control (Highway Music)
Soundcloud
This song started as something little to listen to on my way to NYC from Pittsburgh.
Like a lot of us, I'm sure.. the loudest place I really get to listen to my music is in the car, so a lot of times my music gets tailored to that experience.
Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think

Re: Mental Adventure - Cruise Control (Highway Music)
It's not really what I'd listen to on a long car journey. I like deep, atmospheric stuff like burial, kryptic minds, biome etc. But i can certainly see this working as it has some nice progression. I'd add some more atmosphere to it maybe, some nice relaxing sounds etc.
I personally wouldn't use drums like those, maybe a sub kick with a snappy snare (like an 808 or something) and just sidechain as much as you can.
Also sounds abit muddy on my speakers, might sound fine in a car but it could be something you can work on.

Cheers! Thanks for the feedback
I think it sounds muddy, too--but when I tried to cut frequencies, it made the whole thing sound.. flappy
I think it's because the sounds I synthed dont have enough soft beef to them.. something I'm trying to figure out

In that case Id try layering your sounds then. Each sound has different areas where it's "muddy" and if you can find it, remove it and if it seems bare, like you said, layer it up. Or you could try compressing it with the frequencies cut, and then layered underneath it have the original or something like that

250-800 is usuallly the "muddy" area
Re: Mental Adventure - Cruise Control (Highway Music)
Word thanks--thats def where most of those sounds sit lol
Re: Mental Adventure - Cruise Control (Highway Music)
this is nice man, you stated that you've based the aesthetic of the tune on an environment which is cool
i think in the future if you get on this tip again it would be nice if you played around with chord structure a bit, this is subjective but i think the progressions in this are a tad predictable, maybe try using some different notes/scales and i think you could get a really atmospheric, slightly darker and ambient sound going.
sounds good though man big up

Thanks, I agree the progressions are pretty simple.
I haven't been using as many chords in my songs in favor of more individual voices, and I can see how that would change the song's predicability--I'll keep it in mind
