Just my opinion, why bother starting a label if you just wanna cater to a very small group of people?

With night tracks, the physical product was limited due to costs, and it being our first release, but I also made it available digitally.

The label and artist must've got together here and thought "lots of dedicated fans have waited years for this... Fuck em". If they wanna be so limited and exclusive and don't care about making money that would allow them to press records in the future, keep it as a dubplate.

Labels and artists can do what they want, but they can't expect supporters to dick ride every move they make, especially one that shows a complete lack of respect for their audience.

exactly. you're not making it more underground by selling so few copies - people will still be aware of the tunes, label and artist even though they didn't get a copy (actually, there probably will be more people knowing them because of the hype it generates). what you're doing is effectively creating a micro-capitalistic market system with an offer that is lower than demand, thus allowing people to become middlemen, speculating on the records, buying them in order to sell them on discogs for higher prices that fans will eventually pay. made me laugh when four tet complained about record shops selling some limited releases on text for ten times the initial price - YOU are turning vinyl into a speculative bubble, not the shop.

i said this with the mere sher thing, but honestly people would use vinyl more if people treated it like a legitimate format instead of some shiny collectible,

i haven't fully chimed in here, hopefully i'll be online at the right time, but if i was running a label it'd be for the love of music, and this just doesn't seem like the decision of someone that loves music, im sure bh do and we just have a different interpretation

How else could it have gone? They know for a fact how many people have waited for it. They know for a fact they could sell a lot more than 300. They've made the decision to purposefully press much lower than the demand, purely on the basis of exclusivity. It's paraphrasing obvs, but that's how it comes across.

This, sooo much.

Also, I can't believe some people on here are actually trying to justify/defend such a dick move by saying "yeah but this label is all about exclusivity/limited releases"...

And moaning about the fact that some bangers getting a release are being played at every night you go... I'm sorry but that is plain snobbery. We're talking about underground music, it's not like say Get Lucky which was hammered everywhere you went during the summer of its release, in the supermarket, on the radio, on the TV, fucking EVERYWHERE.

You should consider yourselves lucky to live in a place where there's enough nights to satisfy your needs and just enjoy it, ffs.

But back on the topic - I wouldn't be surprised at all that they actually press a little more than the official amount and sell copies at an inflated price on Discogs in the following months/years. They'll probably make a lot more money this way than going into the trouble of pressing a lot more and selling them at a normal price with a tiny margin.

So yeah, it IS a massive piss take and it really doesn't make you want to give money to such stnuc. One of the things that I enjoy about underground music is that I tend to think this is sincere music and artform, and buying such type of records gives you the added bonus of supporting people that in your opinion deserve your money, support and appreciation. In this case, it happens to be the total opposite.

On one hand I would love to get this record, but if I manage to do so I won't help but think I've given money to utter stnuc.

I am going to buy this purely to sell on at a high price.

Will then download the vinyl rips to play at home.

Fuck this label.
