I was expecting something a lot crapper than it really is, you shouldn't be so harsh on yourself :P

You should trying getting some more obvious variations in there especially the string sample (violin?) try and break it up so it's not running through the entire track, you'll keep the listener interested in the track that way. Have you tried comparing it to a similar released track? can be a good way of discovering flaws in your own music.

The beat is flying off the track, that's a good thing! Definitely give yourself more credit. I hope your depression subsides :-)

In the intro it seems like you are doing a volume/gain envelope on the kick from low gain to the regular volume it sits at for most of the track. During this part, the snare sounds a little loud compared to the other elements- maybe you could apply an effect to the snare during that time, or add a similar gain envelope?

At 0:30 you introduce the enveloped mid-bass-- it's very quiet relative to the rest of the music-- I definitely agree with sovex that the violin hits don't have to be present throughout. Perhaps you could introduce the mid-bass for a bar and then drop out the violin, bring the mid-bass forward in the mix. And the repeating pattern of the mid-bass part should definitely be longer or repeated with less frequency, or perhaps varied up.

But in terms of beats, this is anything but crap! Keep it up, and good luck on the assignments!

I've been away from the computer for a bit, thank you so much for the feedback.

It's getting better because of the holidays, cheers!
