Life really is too short to break down all that is wrong with this piece.

I'm no mastering expert, but as a professional audio engineer and on first glance i must agree that this 'tutorial' looks a bit pooey to be honest...Jtransition wrote:Pure Bollocks,CRYPTIC wrote:Hey just found this

Hehe you disapprove all links posted here, can you provide us with relevant information that'd make your job easier - in addition to what you said that's quoted in the bible's mastering paragraph?Jtransition wrote:Pure Bollocks,CRYPTIC wrote:Hey just found this

Re: Mastering tutorial
Generally mastering your own tracks is like cutting your own hair,You rarely get good results. This is because mastering is about a second opinion just to make sure that the music is in context for the end format and that there are not any tonal problems.Daft tnuc wrote:Hehe you disapprove all links posted here, can you provide us with relevant information that'd make your job easier - in addition to what you said that's quoted in the bible's mastering paragraph?Jtransition wrote:Pure Bollocks,CRYPTIC wrote:Hey just found this

Mastering is not just about making the music loud.
I suggest that people try and get the acoustics of their studios as good as possible.
Make sure that your mixes translate well on other systems(boombox/Car).
If you plan to send your tracks to be mastered by a pro then do not
normalise the stereo bus
Limit the stereo bus
Heavily compress the stereo buss
Red light any of the channels in the computer.
Send the Mastering engineer a dynamic mix, If you want your music to be loud then ask the me to make it loud.
I can only speak for myself on this one I do not go by numbers ,Whilst a spectrum analyser would be useful on the problematic jobs ,I have never used one.Seems like that tutorial goes a bit too much by the numbers.
So Jason, how much would a pro masterer go by the numbers?
The secret to mastering is there is no secret.
Just hard work and years studying your craft.

I only cut own hair.
Just not the stuff on my head.
Yes, that's right.
No nose hair for me.

Yeah the second opinion thing is uber important. I've put out a few tunes that I thought were mixed down pretty well only to see them interpreted in a different way (ie in a mix), and then I realized the levels were way the fuck off.
