the overly obvious trolls are a bit cringeinducing. like that edm_drvg dude.
You probably wouldn't say the obvious trolls were obvious trolls if they'd been here since '05 and had twelve million self wank posts on the forum, would you...
depends. if some of their posts are helpful / insightful / interesting, I wouldn't. since you haven't provided anything remotely helpful or interesting (at least on this account) I'd rather you fuck off.

Not at all imo. At about £4500, that's a lot of dubplates to cut before you even "break even" on the purchase. The initial price, plus having to buy materials, maintenance of the machine would mean it wouldn't be worth it, unless you chip in with a handful of mates too, and regardless, I'd guess the people that are cutting the most dubplates probably aren't dropping ~£40 per plate on getting them cut in the first place. Unless it was a couple of hundred, I don't think it'll take off in a meaningful way, and even if it was, I'd suspect only a handful of people could be bothered.

All that, and I presume you'd still have to have some mastering knowledge so the digital you're cutting actually sounds good on wax.

true, but what if it were to become cheaper over time? that's what tends to happen to most technology after all

yeahh this is the main thing that would stop me bothering

one of the main appeals for me when i've thought about getting stuff cut before is whatever kind of mastering they'll do as well when they cut it

probably not a lot of point in doing them if you couldn't actually make them sound any good

Like I said, even if it did become cheaper, still a lot of blockers. Say it ends up being a quarter of the price, at £1,125, that's still a LOT of tunes you wanna press to vinyl to justify the cost, even if it was about £500, that's still a lot. Then there's effort, materials, maintenance, lack of mastering for vinyl knowledge, and that it doesn't look suitable for even small scale runs. There's been DIY vinyl cutters before, and no fucker bought one. Power to them if they can get it to take it off, but looking at history, and guessing that vinyl's upward trend is likely a fad, I can't see this going far.

Forthcoming foil etching of the machine, designed by the ghost of King Robbo. 0 copies. Machine has been smashed to pieces to a soundtrack created by Ekoplekz, made entirely of micronoise samples of the vinyl cutting process.

just dropped 20k on my modular synth setup mate, where am I going to find the money for that? 8)

fun fact: back when commercial lathes like this came out the first time around they were aimed at turntablists and ignored by club DJs because of the ever improving range of CD decks.

That's only true for technologies which are actively being developed. As you can see, it's a lot easier to get a hold of music itself, but getting vinyls is a lot harder than it used to be.

Not really. Night Tracks isn't famous to nearly the same level Young Echo is, putting out 30 odd tapes, 40 odd CDs and having the release available digitally isn't remotely comparable to putting out 5 copies of a 40 second long joke tune on a transparent flexi-disc or whatever it was, with some snippet of a preview on vine  Don't even try and push it cos you know it's wet.
