plastic people to close

Post by soronery » Fri Jan 02, 2015 7:25 am

http://www.factmag.com/2015/01/01/plast ... e-closing/
Update: Plastic People have confirmed to FACT that the club will not open beyond this week, saying that “the time felt right to move on”. The last night in the club will be for ‘friends and family’ and billed as The Last Dance. It takes place on Saturday December 3, with Floating Points, Benny Blanco, Abdul Forsyth and more playing.

Beloved London club Plastic People is reportedly closing.

The Shoreditch club – once home of FWD>>, as well as London residencies for Theo Parrish, Carl Craig, Four Tet, Floating Points and more – has faced its fair share of problems in recent years, with its license threatened by police in 2010 (prompting a petition to keep the club open, and causing the venue to adapt to restrictions in terms of its sound and layout).

People close to the club have referenced its closure on social media several times today (including Josey Rebelle, a resident at the club’s Nonsense night), and a source has told FACT that the club will be closing imminently, with a RSVP-only party for a send-off. Scottish label Huntley and Palmers, who booked Thursday nights at Plastic People, announced last month that their latest Thursday would be their last. Plastic People are yet to make an official statement though, so the news for now is unconfirmed.

It’s worth noting that Plastic People had venues prior to its current Shoreditch location, so there’s a chance that it will re-emerge at a new location rather than shut its doors for good (another source has told us that the club have been looking into new venues for some time). For now though, it looks like the end for the Shoreditch spot that was formative for many of this generation’s most talented and popular DJs and producers.

Oh man, what a side swipe. I came in here having read that as "plastic people too close" (I think this may be early onset dyslexia) I was expecting something way different.

But yea ive never been to that club. I actually didn't know about it tbh. Whats the historical significance behind it?

The club itself was nothing special, even before the changes

oh this is where it was? Not trolling no worries, I have to keep track of a lot of local stuff here so I dont know what nights/promotions are going on in other countries apart from what comes up in conversation online.

Never went but would loved to have gone back in the day around 04-05. Alas I was in the north at that time.
