Hi,
Hope this is the right section to post this.
Purchased a soundcard quite a few years ago for recording mixes (Numark DJ IO) and have tried numerous occasions to set it up and failed every time with a driver error. Ive completely had enough of pulling my hair out over such a small, yet big thing and will want to be buying a new soundcard very soon.
So you guys who operate Vinyl and CDJ's, what soundcards do you use and what do you recommend?
Also what specific programs do you use on your PC/Mac to record the mixes? which do you recommend?
(My set up consists of X2 CDJ800MK2, Korg KM-202)
Matt.

Re: Soundcard advice for recording
I use an old NI Audio 8 DJ and I record by taking the rec out of my mixer to
a third input on the interface. Traktor lets you route and record it.
When I still had a bad laptop, I used an external recorder.

Re: Soundcard advice for recording
Ill be using a decent laptop so there shouldnt be any issues there.
Slightly unsure on inputs and outputs to the ext soundcard. Have a feeling my mixer has the MASTER output and 'BOOTH' i think the Booth goes into input 1 on the soundcard?

Re: Soundcard advice for recording
Honestly, any decent interface should allow you to record a mix into your DAW. I've recorded mixes and jams into my Tascam DR07 field recorder too. You just have to set the input level correctly. Then its just drag and drop from the recorded to the computer.
RE I/O: no reason the "booth" output shouldn't work for recording. It is a monitoring output, but there should be no technical difference between that and a Rec Out or Tape Out. And yes, you want to the Booth OUT to go to INPUT(s) on your soundcard. Generally speaking, soundcards have mono inputs, so it might take the right cable etc if you want a stereo recording.
Check the manual on your mixer. If the booth out is only one jack, it is still likely to be stereo. Then its a matter of buying the right cable to get to two inputs on our soundcard.

Re: Soundcard advice for recording
I honestly just use one of these to record DJ mixes/do radio streams and get good results imo. No driver required, plug and play on both PC and Mac. Cheap, simple, and works well.

Also, I know for my mixer, the record out is like -10db or something like all the time compared the main outs and the booth outs bypass the Mic inputs (to avoid feedback in the booth). So you should read your mixer's manual and find out exactly whats going on with the different outputs.
Here's a mix i recorded with it if you want to scope the sound quality (mixture of vinyl and cdjs going into an allen & heath x:one 62)
