all art has it's time and place man. i'd rather look at some interesting shapes n colours than another blank wall of bricks or breezeblocks. it enlivens architecture which has no artistic merit of its own... taggin ain't the highest form of art but these people be they kids or not are making those depressed areas theirs by doing so. i just think it's pretty silly to jump in on this thread which is for appreciation of something with all this hating! Safe.

so, is ahahaha the heart attack, or your counter point? what i said still stands, "art" when put in a gallery or museum has its social force neutralized and becomes a commodity.
they tried to do it to graff and it never really worked.
illegal graff & street art is imho the only genuine modern art movement.
everything else is commodified & irrelevant.
i hope somebody hits up your crib with a fat juicy sloppy dripping marsh handstyle.lloydnoise wrote:lol @ art prison. u r a douche
i think its actually great that yall dont like it. its inspired emotion, thus successfull.
if you know how to read the walls you can interpret ALOT about any given area. perhaps this is a skill native to NYC, but i doubt it highly... just from asek's flics he posted, i was able to figure out where he lives, who he rolls/writes with and alot of other things about him & where hes at...
behind every single tag, throwie etc you see, there is a real person, DEMANDING existence. its a truly revolutionary act.
fuck you, fuck property, fuck the government, fuck art, I EXIST.
and imho, its fucking beautiful, especially the "ugly side"
one
douche?
AS ABOVE SO BELOW!
For the sake of being even handed... don't agree with you human re galleries & museums etc. Are you gonna let the world's artistic heritage lay unappreciated, or worse, on the walls of the rich elite who can afford to collect? It's 'social force' may have been diminished, but not because you put it in a gallery, moreover because it's time and place has come and gone.
that is what museums are tho, the walls of the rich elite who can afford to collect... can afford it so much in fact to the point they "donate"...Ikarai wrote:For the sake of being even handed... don't agree with you human re galleries & museums etc. Are you gonna let the world's artistic heritage lay unappreciated, or worse, on the walls of the rich elite who can afford to collect? dont get me wrong, i love museums & galleries. but they nonetheless always reek of death.
what im saying is a counterpoint to those who put down tagging as "not art", because to me, it is actually the ESSENCE of art, alive....
im the type of person who doesnt really feel comfortable in a area that DOESNT have graff.... maybe its a NYC thing... but the writing on the walls serve as a consistant reminder that we are alive... and its a noble deed imho when at risk of being put in jail, people go out of there way to remind us all of that... whether we like it or not...
*edt* btw, im also using the word art in a very limited sense here. my feelings about "art" is def summed up by the quote "the artist is not some special sort of person, but every person is a special sort of artist" im not inclined whatsoever to put a definition on "art".... but as a "art movement" i dont see anything that even comes close to illegal graff & street art...

I like some graff.
I love wonabc stuff:

But, when it's just a bunch of shitty tags, I can leave it.

so ppl that think they like graff, really are more art fans than anything...if it has to have 10 colours in it for you to like it, you dont like real graffiti.
raw shit.
but yknow, everyone has opinions.

Dude...no one ever told you you were wrong. you can have your opinion and thats fine with me...Im not trying to convince you to like it. We are just sharing our opinion with you in hopes that you can see where we are coming from. But clearly you cant see past your own ego to have an intelligent conversation. You dont like it? Fine, but how does it make us pricks?

I keep reading all this " hes got a great handstyle, nice 'R' or whatever". Is there some reason that taggers cant just tag canvas or there own property?. i mean the sheer arrogance involved, the complete lack of respect for property, for your communities.
There is financial cost both to individuals and municipalities in removing this "art". i own a business and i have spent $1000's on expensive removal from stupid fucking tags. Do any of you want to re-imburse me?. How about provide me you licence plate number or your parents address and i can have a few people come by and get to work.
The narccisim involved in doing this is off the charts. I make art to, but i live my life with respect. I let people choose for themsleves, when and where to see my art, thats what artists do. Having to force your art on people, is proof of how little value it actually has.
i still think its funny that graffiti is associated with hip hop, its perfect. i mean if there was ever a culture that misunderstood the word 'respect' its hip hop.
Again i dont hate graffiti, sometimes (SOMETIMES!!) its art. It offends me to have to look at this stuff without choice. You're esentially art fascists. make some tags on your own fucking property put out flyer and if im interested ill go see (plesae keep in mind that A: im not interested and B: i wont go) otherwise : STAY THE FUCK OFF MY PROPERTY!
if any of the 'writers' want to put their money where their mouth is, then pm me and i can tell how you can help re-imburse all the money ive lost because of your 'art'.
