at the same time, so many people are trying to distance it so far from dubstep when it is obvious there are loads of influences from it.jags wrote:i think lots of ppl just heard Commotion and think that's what 130 is. lots of it does not sound like dubstep nevermind dungeon

All that melts away when the lights are down and the bass is up.
Re: Benga retires
I for one am excited to hear what Benga will come with next. He's a very talented producer, and if he can find his sound without the boundaries of 140bpm / "dubstep" holding him back then I think he will be ok. I'd definitely still check for him, he's got that ability to be pretty mind blowing when he gets it just right. I'd be surprised if he was going to aim for the charts again on his next outing, so here's hoping for something built for the clubs.
As for those who have moved on, Loefah has pretty much carved out his own lane / micro-scene with the whole swamp movement. Skream's doing his house thing which seems to be going pretty well for him. Artwork was always one of those guys who could just dip in and out of sounds and scenes, I think he's been one of the best DJ's I've seen live in the post-dubstep era we are kind of sat in right now. Plastician likewise seems to have found himself in some form of micro-scene, but he doesn't appear to have drifted too far from his origins as he still supports a great deal of really good grime on his Rinse show. Some of that LA beats meets UK Purple sound that he's been pushing is really great too and seems to be working for him as his label has been popping up everywhere lately. Judging from Caspa's instagram feed, he's been in the studio with Flux Pavilion this week, so I'm presuming they are working on a similar vibe to what we would expect from them, but only time will tell there. Rusko wrote a DnB album last year right?
It's interesting to hear where everyone is moving onto in terms of sound. I thought Pinch & Mumdance's Turbo Mitzi was pretty much the best example of where the majority of dubstep has moved to in terms of sound - it's that 130 drum machine / 808 sound which had the dark tones of early loefah, whilst falling neatly into that uk techno crossover sound that people are so excited about right now. That's definitely the sound of now for me currently - it's dominating.

Re: Benga retires
If he gives away some old dubs in wav form then he can make all the shitty brostep/B8DeepHau5/Big-Room tunes for all I care
