Sound system music timeline, not exactly accurate but accurate enough from my iPhone while I make a cup of tea.

Reggae / dub
House
Acid house / techno
Hardcore
Happy hardcore / jungle
Drum and bass
Garage
Broken beat / dubstep

But if you really wanted to be that much of a pedantic cock the first and I guess only dubstep sound system was / is Vivek's.

Thing that makes me laugh, people get so bent on the 140 thing, most of the big time classic, Loefah, didn't make tunes at 140. The whole vibe was it has beats bass and was minimal.

The term does matter, and although I agree with his overall point. He seems to have a very narrow musical scope, you can't dismiss a style like d&b as not being system music when it was d&b's evolution that led to the creation of dubstep. To me that's just ignorant.

I didn't realise the whole Manchester crew was Compa.? He ain't even from Manchester, and you can't utter the words Manchester crew and not name drop Biome.

so if techno isn't soundsystem music and is unrelated to dubbier sounds then where does dub-techno fit into this? -q-

I don't really care for soundsystem culture too much. [Insert defense of claim here].
