Whats the difference between some guy trying to sell a tune at a silly price over some guy with the same tune sat on a shelf gathering dust?
One brought it with the intention of selling it for a huge profit, no intention of ever listening to it and placing it so highly priced that it'll just be stuck sitting there when it could potentially be in the hands of someone who likes and wants to own the music. The other, I presume, brought it with the intention of listening/playing it. You may as well be saying "whats the difference between burning a bunch of copies for no good reason and a fan buying it but only playing it once every couple of months". In a word, motive. Someones motive for buying it probably wasn't intentionally for it to sit and gather dust, they wanted to own some music they enjoy and directly contribute some of their hard earned money towards the label and artist. Mushis motive is based on greed and profit, in my eyes the exact opposite of "being in it for the music".
Plus people who buy the tunes they like but they end up sitting on a shelf gathering dust don't tend to buy up 10-20 copies like Mushi and others do.
Again I'm baffled at how a label owner and producer can't see any difference between a fan of the music and someone like Mushi.
Be-1ne wrote:Have you never thought perhaps his prices are so ridiculous because he doesn't actually want to sell the tunes and he's having a massive laugh at everyone's expense.
Assuming thats true, exactly why is that worthy of bigging up and supporting? Again, dickhead antics.

if a record only has a run of 300
and someone like this has 10 copies they are selling for anywhere between 5 and 10 times the original price purely for profiteering
i fail to see in what way this can be considered a good thing

Ok, the tunes mushi buys are from a distro, that is the money that goes to the label, not the money you spend when you buy from a shop. Unless it's a label direct store. Regardless of what the motive is, apart from business obviously, by buying 10 copies and putting them on discos he has actually support a label more than joe blogs who bought one. Simple mathematics.
If I had guys like mushi buying 10 copies of my tunes I'd be happy as, because as a small label I don't see the money of joe blogs I see the money shops spend when buying from the distributor. If mushi can seek my tune for £100 then fair play to him, because the reality is, no one is going to buy those records and the reality is that most labels associated with dub step are small and benefit from the geezer buying 10 copies of a tune from the distributor.
It's that money that goes towards helping put out more music, the money you spend in a shop helps keep that shop in business. And that is why I say FairPlay to him.
Remember a record is never guaranteed to sell and you have no idea until it's up for sale what will happen, one of the biggest gambles in the world. So if a man want to buy 10 tunes and help keep a small label afloat then that's good.
I remember a time when records where limited to certain areas or shops and you had to go and get it or miss out. And it was much better than the time when kids whinge on the Internet. End of the day if you want to hear it so bad go on YouTube as someone will generally always rip them anyway.

yeah would be easier for discogs to add an ignore button tbh then vinyl vendor can go on that as well.

I see so you just want the money and don't care where the music ends up, as long as you get the money its all gravy.
Makes sense now.
Big up yourself. I'm out.

If I wanted to make money I wouldn't run a label, and I'm sure your aware this applies to all labels so to be so uppity at me directly is a bit meh.
If I was to be so concerned where every record I ever sold went they'd all be sat in my house and I'd be doing background checks on every buyer.
It's a fruitless argument I've justified my side from many angles and all you guys are coming with is some lame I didn't get the record I wanted so I'm gonna ramp on mushi.
If every label was so sentimental about the music they released it would all be sold as one copy per person wi an iq test and crb check. At least he isn't ripping them vinyls to MP3 and making them available to download or is he now a wanker for not doing that?

Nah I never came with 'I didn't get the record I wanted' I came with 'just cause you don't agree with the hate campaign and anger doesn't mean you have to openly support what he does'. You realise there can be 2 wrong sides right? Just cause you disagree with one doesn't mean you have to automatically have to support the other. You've justified your argument with 'most labels dont sell all their records anyway', 'hes a business plz leave him alone

' and 'I get more money if he buys 10 than a fan buying 1'
Well justified.
I'm not even gunna pretend to try and understand why you'd support his antics anymore. Quite frankly its boring and I'm still sure a little bit of it was a stereotypical DSF hissy fit and playing devils advocate.

imo, the root of this problem is at the behaviour of some labels now. Maybe I'm wrong, but when I first started buying vinyl about 2007, it didn't seem like there was nearly the hype around so many releases, especially generated by the labels themselves, and that was during a relatively "down" time for the vinyl market.
Now every man and his dog wants to buy vinyl again, yet it seems like SO many releases now get the "NO REPRESSES. LIMITED STOCK (even if that number is actually quite a lot for an underground release). EXCLUSIVE TO XXXXX". I've no problem with some new label pressing 100 vinyl/cd/tapes/wax cylinders/whatever if they're not sure how many they'll sell. When labels or artists with a massive audience press an amount well below what they know they could sell (which they're entitled to do), make sure it's exclusive to one, ill-prepared website/record shop and describe it as rare, they're hardly in a position to criticise people like mushimushi.

Yeah theres been a huge increase in labels doing that, Be-1ne said that earlier and I said I completely agree.
If people wanna pretend tanmushimushi is an innocent party in all this fair enough, maybe the hate isn't justified.. but to actively say you support what he does when you're in the music industry makes less than no sense to me whatsoever. Theres a good reason many producers/label owners call out this guy as being a dickhead... its not a weird coincidence.
For me the hate, by record labels and producers, is way more justified than supporting what he does.

Oh yeah, I don't support the guy. I'm not so black and white on this. Yeah, people shouldn't buy from him if they don't want to, but also, people like him have probably had a direct influence on driving up prices and helping fuel the insane culture around vinyl that sees plates listed for 10x face value minutes after selling out.

Glad the tnuc is gone, good thing for vinyl IMO, weird to see someone who ran a label not having a problem with him, but he's probably not the best example seeing as, you know.. label flopped

Ok I didnt want to have this conversation but this seems like the best place for it so If you've been into dub since the mid 00s then of course things are going to get a bit samey and jaded 15 years down the line. It is absolutely unavoidable, especially when it's more or less the same beats, same samples, same DJs, same MCs, same venues etc.
Many times over the years I've reached a stage where I've thought 'fuck this' and sacked dubs off completely. I don't think I went to a single night, or paid any attention to the scene whatsoever for about 18 months in 2009-2011. All it took was one night in the Fabirc to pull me straight back in though and I was like a newbie raver all over again.
As frustrating, repetitive and downright cheesy as the thing can get at times, there is still no other style of music that excites me in the way dub bass does, I don't think that's ever going to change no matter how old I get. For every shallow boring tune or producer that comes out there is another mindblowing one that is bubbling under the surface if you can be bothered to look for it.
Get involved. Be postive.

It doesn't really bother me that he's doing it. There's no point getting upset from others actions you have no influence with. What amazes me is that he actually has feedback, lots of it!
But then it's up to people what they think individual records are worth.
Be-1ne your kinda contradicting yourself by saying your not into setting up a record label for the money then saying you'd be happy if a guy bought up 10 copies to sell at an inflated price?
Why would you be happy the guy bought up 10 copies for?
Because you know ten of your fans will have to pay over the odds for your record or be left without assuming it sold out?
But then on the other hand, in any other industry this would be called having good business sense I suppose.
Interesting topic.

People would even care about him as much if discogs had a good blocking system.
